Did anyone see the "We are New York's Team" ad outside MSG with Mo Harkless on it?

This was not the year to come out with that message.

This game ain't for the faint of heart.  Gotta be bold!

Syracuse is no more NYC's college basketball team than the Bills are NYC's pro football team.  The distance from Syracuse City Hall to the Empire State Building in NYC (Manhattan) is 249.4 miles.

Yes, that's true. They are a 4 hour drive on a good day from NYC, but they decided to make this obnoxious claim after winning their 2nd consecutive BE tournament.

For St.John's, winning a BE tournament isn't even conceivable, but for SU, it's not even news. This is a town that only has love for winners. SU might be far away, but they won the NIT here, and they'll murder us on the 4th. Then there is the BE tourney. They'll play 2 or 3 games in that.

So, the team that's 4 hours away, will have played 5 or 6 games here by mid March. What do we have 9 games? Will we even win a home BE game this year at MSG? Like it or not, they're NY's team. Maybe we're Jamaica's team.

Bold is making an obnoxious outrageous claim, and then backing it up. What have we backed up?

C'mon Poison.  That's the mentality that is killing us.  Inferiority complex.  Eff Cuse.  I hope we smoke them on the 4th.  If we don't, oh well.  I will just hate them even more.  But I'm sick of us giving our city and MSG to them.  They can go to hell!  This is our city.

It will be our city when we man up and beat them. Right now, and more than ever, it is their city. I went to the game yesterday. Where was the rest of the SJU fan base? That my friend, is the attitude that is killing us.

We need some NY kids on this team, more than 1. Non alumni  need someone to root for, someone from their own backyard who they can somewhat relate to imo. The student body is absolutely useless minus the 100 diehards

I was there too and I'm at every home game.  I'm one of the few old guys that stand and cheer.  I've travelled to DC, Newark, Philly, Providence and Hartford to see them in the last 2 years.  I wear red proudly even when we're being stomped. Lavin will soon get us back where we need to be but in the mean time, I am not gonna back down to those crappy Cuse fans.

The problem isn't where the players are from. Lindsey was from a tough part of Philly and as it turns out, he was the weakest player we've had since Alpha Bangura. Your address doesn't tell the whole story.

The Johnnies have traditionally been made up of mostly NYC players but I'm glad that Lavin is recruiting nationally.  He will take us to places that this program has rarely been.  If we win, fans will come.  Until then, it is up to the diehards to do their best to build up the fanbase.  Frankly, the talent level in NYC alone isn't enough to take us where we want to get to.  There are maybe a dozen quality players each year.  Of those, only a few are elite level talents---and many of them will choose to go away.  I want the best available players, wherever they're from.

Funny how I can agree with part 1 and disagree with the Bangura shot.

Lets just take NY players because they are from NY.  When will people realize NY'ers WANT to go away.  There are some that will stick around and yes we have to get the 'best' of them.  Not just take ppl to brag oh we have NY'ers on the team to support.  I can't even think of what words can describe that theory.

Understood. But you're a diehard fan and those are scarce in Queens. The casual fan doesn't get excited about watching a pg from Chicago throw airballs with 0 assists. Lavin is supposed to be great in the living room, fantastic. Now keep the elite Nyc and Jersey players close to home
