We need some NY kids on this team, more than 1. Non alumni  need someone to root for, someone from their own backyard who they can somewhat relate to imo.

Please

Please what?

Lets just take NY players because they are from NY.  When will people realize NY'ers WANT to go away.  There are some that will stick around and yes we have to get the 'best' of them.  Not just take ppl to brag oh we have NY'ers on the team to support.  I can't even think of what words can describe that theory.

Some kids, like Lance, need to get away from their surroundings.  Others, like Kemba, find the right situation elsewhere.  But everytime I see Moe's mom sitting behind the St. John's bench, I wonder why more kids don't want the opportunity to have their loved ones at all their home games.

The Johnnies have traditionally been made up of mostly NYC players but I'm glad that Lavin is recruiting nationally.  He will take us to places that this program has rarely been.  If we win, fans will come.  Until then, it is up to the diehards to do their best to build up the fanbase.  Frankly, the talent level in NYC alone isn't enough to take us where we want to get to.  There are maybe a dozen quality players each year.  Of those, only a few are elite level talents---and many of them will choose to go away.  I want the best available players, wherever they're from.

Understood. But you're a diehard fan and those are scarce in Queens. The casual fan doesn't get excited about watching a pg from Chicago throw airballs with 0 assists. Lavin is supposed to be great in the living room, fantastic. Now keep the elite Nyc and Jersey players close to home

I'm all for keeping some local talent, but not just to do it.  You don't get the 3rd ranked recruiting class in the country grabbing kids from NY and NJ.  The talent isn't what it used to be.  If we want to compete with the big boys lets act like it, no more of this mom and pop bs...

Not having enough city kids is NOT what's keeping us from being the talk of the town...

And just to be clear... I've never heard/seen Cuse call themselves NYC's team.  I've seen them with posters/shirts/slogans saying they are New York's college team, but that's something different.
I'm not trying to pick straws, I really think there's a difference.

It was a more powerful message when it went unsaid. They are NY's team. They have been from the moment Senator Palpatine hired Norm Roberts, and decided to punish the fan base, and University.

When they put it on top of taxi cabs, and threw it on billboards, it was obnoxious. 100% true, but obnoxious.

I saw Harrison and a womens player poster on the back of a bus

Such a pathetic idea

Relax trigger! It is called an "advertisement"! St. John's, whether you like it or not, is New York City's Big East representative school. Every Big East school advertises its games in their home town, even Pittsburgh which is 0-6 in the Big East. They began the year in the top 10. We began the year with all new players and now have 5 freshmen and a JC transfer who was intended to back up Norvel Pelle.
I am not begrudging Syracuse any recognition in NY State. They own college basketball in the north country. They have a few thousand alums in the NYC area that are eager to see their team when they are as successful as they are now. No need to rank on St. John's in a penis envy mode. There is no comparison this year. Hopefully, next year SJ will deserve the moniker better.
Some folks here never get tired of bad mouthing their own team (I forgive Baldi since he is an interloper) but some of you alums are pathetic.
Get over this year! There is not one living alumnus that can remember a younger, more inexperienced SJU team.
The 5 freshmen will be freshmen next week and the week after that after another loss and yet another loss. No surprises unless you are a dreamer.
That we have lost to 7 ranked teams is no excuse for some even though we have not lost by 33 points like 4th ranked UNC to an unranked team or lost 6 Big East games in a row like Pitt yet some make excuses for them because they lost their PG Tavon Woodall. Well trigger, we lost a guard, a center and a forward this year that were to be big contributors too but don't let that stop some here from being ashamed at every loss and manufacture conversations with players, making up medical conversations by Lavin's doctors (doctor-patient confidentiality does not apply to some insiders who think they are private dicks---they are just dicks) and finally, if you are not a fan and really think SJ sucks -----Why are you here???????

Please. There is no comparison any year. Just because we say we are New York's team, doesn't make it true. Clearly we are not anyone's team. Nobody cares about St.John's unless they are world beaters. The fan base has a reputation nationally as band wagoners. I can't think of term more spot on than that.

Recruiting nationally actually makes us more relevant especially when its top 100 players. Grab someone like Harkless, Mccullough, Whiteheads, Lawrence but getting top talent from Cali, Texas etc gives us a bigger profile

I wish we had Calhoun but was never a priority so cant fault Hicks for that. Hinds was class of 2011 where we had 9 players coming in already. Also remember that there was the 2 year rule in which we couldn't sign any of his players. Bottom line is since Hicks has been hired the talent level has been down in NYC.

Which again begs the question: WHY ARE YOU HERE?
Are you a bandwagonger?
Are you a masochist?
Are you into self-flagellation?
Do you like banging your head against the wall?
If we are "clearly" not anyone's team you must have a serious identification issue.
Yes, we all know you enjoy "poisoning" the well.
But please do not ever use the term "we" in reference to St. John's!
A true fan attends the game because of the love of the game and in support of their team and school.
To self-hate and poison the well exhibits a deeper personal issue that most here really do not care to psychoanalyze.
Get well soon!

And no, I am not a bandwagoner. Yet that is the very definition of a St.John's fan. The 100-200 fans that show up for games don't fall into that group, (myself included).

So sorry to have hurt your feeling. You might want to wear ear plugs on February 4th. New York's team is going to molest the f out of us. We are, St.John's. We are not New York's team.
