Nice interview of Coach Lav from Kieran Darcy at ESPN

http://espn.go.com/new-york/ncb/story/_/id/7504034/st-john-red-storm-steve-lavin-return-coach-not-sure-timetable

Great interview! They showed him talking with the players before the game, looked alot better than he has in past weeks. The suit, the gel in the hair, laughing and huggin it out with the team. I think hes back soon, my guess in Seton Hall game.

In the Post it is implied he is going to rest for rest of season. Didn't your "source" clue you in on it?
Lets let this topic die!

I think we see him back at either Syracuse (2/4) or Cincinnati (2/8)

the obvious answer is when hes ready. But if he can return before the season is over , that would be reassurring to the recruits.  Seeing him talk to the players before the game is good for team morale and also sends a good sign to recruits.

it was amazing for me to see how the players reacted to him at center court during the opening ceremony.  they all had HUGE smiles on their faces while giving Lavin hugs.

I think he comes back for UCLA.

I can confirm this as I was in attendance. Each kid laughed, smiled, joked with Lavin as he hugged them before game. It was actually kind of impressive.

I heard him say he is currently at the same point as he was at the beginning of the season which I interpret to mean he didn't want to play out this whole process again by coming back too soon.

Loved watching that too.  It's he reason kids want to play for Lavin.  He forges real relationships with people.  Why are guys like Baron, Watson, Rico, Bailey and others always around?  Lavin genuinely cares about these kids and it shows.  Great to see how our guys respond to him and vice versa.  Not many guys can do that.

Confused me a bit though.I thought Lavin was attending practices?

As I reread the article it becomes more obvious to me that he will not be back this year. And that's ok. There are a whole bunch of cautionary statements that have to do with the stress of coaching a game, as opposed to recruiting or attending practices.

And for those who are picking a specific game for his return, it would be disasterous for him to have to take another leave of abscence because of fatigue. Remember there is nothing more stressfull then the BE tournament.

Just my opinion, but I think they get the "Lavin not returning this season" story out floating around making it that much better when he makes his return towards the end of the season. It would be a good PR move and a great story. Just in time to seal the deal with the recruits

You either guessed, made up, actually had a source or was told by God that Lavin was not returning. It appears for all intent and purposes to all but a select, slow few that this is indeed going to be the case  Now you are posting in direct opposite of the "scoop" you had that will probably turn out to be correct.  ???

That was scoop I heard, not my opinion. Lavin returning, is just my prediction. I never claimed to be smart

FYI ... there are still rumors floating around.  Both stories are from today.

Although who knows where Hoops Weiss gets his info

"The biggest rumor floating out there was that Lavin would leave the job at the end of the season and move back to the West Coast, applying for the USC job if it opened."

"Even better, did you hear the one about St. John’s Steve Lavin returning to the West Coast to coach one of those floundering Pac-12 outfits.."

The second article was being facetious about the ridiculousness of these rumors.  Lavin's legacy will be built at St. Johns, not USC.  Rumors are nuts.  If Lavin goes anywhere my guess is back to broadcasting, but not any time soon.
