I agree the we should open up the offense and let these guys run. First, what do we have to lose? We get blown out? Second, our players aren't built for a half court offense, at least not yet. Dom, Amir, GG and Greene are challenged offensively but all thrive in the open court. Lastly, recruits and the fans want to watch a fun brand of basketball not the shot clock violation from hell offense.  Let the guys play Dunlap and smile once and awhile after all it's just a game.

I dont disagree with your point but playing in the half court is something we need to learn. Sure we could just have them run up & down gunning shots but thats not gonna get us better in the long run. They need to learn patience and how to execute in a half court set. Work in progress

Players like Sir Dom and Greene are only effective in a running game. Play a 35 second offense and they become invisible.  It is a natural evolution on this young team. When Moe and D show up and GG gets to the line, this young team can play with any Big East team for 30 minutes. It's the other 10 that have been a problem when you cannot rest your starters and the season starts wearing on those young bones.
I do not think Lav and especially coach D read this site.....is it not for members only? But Tony C is on top of everything!  It is in his Columbia genes!! BTW Baldi.....he loves Iona this year!!!!

I do have one concern and its legitmate.

Are we struggling to find players who fit the system we want to employ?  While we might be getting Top 100 kids are they Top 100 kids who can play the way the coaches want to.

And then the other question is are we getting the right players and they just aren't picking it up.

We have the right type of players.  Unlike under Norm when the team was comprised of players with conflicting styles--both grind-it-out slow players like Geno and athletes like Mase and Ced-- this team has a bunch of guys that can play the same type of game.

We have a team built to defend all 96 x 50 of the floor...force ballhandlers to the sideline for dangerous skip passes to the only open man...to trap the sh*t out of opposing teams, etc.  But there just aren't enough players now.  The team would be gassed by halftime every game at that pace.  We already have Brach, which is huge, and Lavin will and 4-5 ponies to the stable.

Wanting to run more and being able to do it are two different things. If you want to run you have to D board and we cant with the team we have. We especially cant if Dunlap insists on playing one or both of Dom and Amir at the top of our 1-1-3 and having D'Angelo down low. Whatever you're gaining by having their length and quicks defending the perimeter, you more than lose by having Harrison down low to a) get lobbed over constantly and b) get absolutely crushed on the boards by guys 5-8 inches taller than him. But they refuse to change, which makes no sense.

Tough to run when you're taking the ball out of the net.

Offense has opened up. Even though we still go through some brutal stretches, overall much more entertaining IMO

A lot of that has to do with Greene really coming on strong over the last four games or so.

Greene is so frenetic in the open court that he freaks out the defenders, who don't have a clue how to guard him.

It also seems like we're getting a lot more steals, which is just as good as D rebounds. Looks like they made some adjustments to the zone because you're not seeing wide open  3 shooters all game long. Our length and quickness is ridiculous...we cover so much ground so quickly, its scary to think what these kids will look like after another year or two.

I think Amir has really provided the team a lift since joining the team.

I think we should end this thread because we don't have a discouraged team and the discussion has shifted away from original point.  And I am discouraged seeing the word "discouraged"!
