i wouldn't put much weight into his selection.  as you may recall the great Norm Roberts was a fixture on CBS during the tourney.

And unlike Norm, Lavin won't bore me to sleep.

Brendan is supposedly looking at a Mid Major.  He's really been screwed over at UCLA in terms of PT (lots of reasons), but it would only be a 1 year investment for the Johnnies - he's more than worth it if Lavs could get him to come.   6'9 220.   Out of High Sschool, he was the #65 recruit in the country.  His team was runnerup for State Champion in California his senior year, and he was named Division two State Player of the Year.  Not his fault they lost the state final - he put up 29 pts, 19 rebounds and 10 blocks in the title game - just had no support - he carried the team all year.    For the year averaged 22 pts 13 rebs and 5 blocks.

Great kid, great student - graduating in 3 years - he was a true junior this year.

Before his head got messed up, he was a big with a solid perimeter game out to the arc, and one of the top 10 shotblockers ever in California high school hoops.  Played both the 4 and the 5 for the Bruins.

Given the recent history of UCLA transfers, how can you NOT take a shot on him?  Mike Moser is an All American as a soph at UNLV - averaged a double double.  His teammate, Chace Stanback put up 13/6 - also a UCLA transfer.   Drew Gordon was runner up for conference POY at New Mexico - 15 pts and 11 rebs per game.   And you can watch Matt Carlino tonight vs. Iona - the frosh xfer is getting 13 pts and 4 assists a game as the replacement for Jimmer Fredette as BYU's pg.

if he's graduating Early, is he immediately eligible?  Sounds like a worthwhile investment for Lavs for one season either way.  Good size and I'm sure our staff can utilize him better than ucla did.

To answer MCNPA's question, yes - he's immediately eligible as he is graduating and moving on "for his masters"...

Isn't there a requirement that the transfer is pursuing a program that is not available at the school he is leaving. Pac 10 QB ( Oregon or Oregon State) transferred to Miss State needed to enroll in a program not available at the school he was leaving or am I mistaken?

I agree. The bigs are my biggest worry. Sampson and Obekpa are far from sure things and Moe may leave. It is possible we could have none of the 3 next year. Not a pleasant thaught. Lavin should also pursue the Center recruit from SMU if he would be eligible to go to a BE school, A 4 star 7 footer who can run the floor.

This kid is a perfect fit.  As a soph he averaged  3 pt 3.1 boards and .8 blocks in 15 minutes per game.  He even shot 37% from three on 16 attempts.  He's always sat behind very good up front talent. 

This kid sounds like  perfect match for St. John's.  10 and 6 is very much a possibility if he signs on as our center.  A Sweet 16 could be in his future.  We don't have McDonald's All-Americans standing in his way.  In fact, we don't even have a center on the roster.
