Lavin Hard on the Recruiting Trail

You're probably right, i've only seen a couple games from him but I think he has some diamond in the ruff qualities in him. If things dont fall through I wouldn't mind seeing him on the team as someone who provides depth and can be a nice role player

I def agree with the diamond in the ruff analogy, he has a great motor and a big heart. He reminds m of Ryan Pearson a senior at George mason right now. He budded into a terrific mid major player. But I'm really hoping the staff sticks there nose in the Isaiah cousins recruitment. Lavin offering a "decent" player in Thaddeus hall who might not even qualify scares me. The staff continues to talk a good one but no commits and offering Hall I don't understand. He is a bottom of the barrel big east talent IMO.

I respectfully disagree with your last sentence.  However I do agree it is a waste to offer if he has no chance to qualify. 

Especially after all we went thru during the summer with all the non-qualifiers, but let's talk basketball a bit. if Hall isn't a lower tier big east player then what is he? Is he a immediate impact player? What position would he even play? He certainly dosent fit the mold of wing forwards lavin has already assembled and thats what he plays now in highschool. Cousins is about the same size with better ball skills and off hand, and can defend both guard positions; thus I'm in favor.

The term impact was used due to our lack of everything at this point. Lol. There really about the same size Hall might have him by a half of a inch at most and although Hall has been pretty hot from long range these past 2 weeks he is not by any measure a "shooter". Although he has had a barrage of 30+ performances as of late he has made more threes in his last 4 games then he had in his previous 12. The same with his free throw shooting 44% from the line on the season. He is a rhythm shooter, if he catches fire it could be a long night but it's more sporadic and inconsistent then touch and skill. I think unless your tremendously strong or a great rebounder playing the 3 and consistently being effective at 6'3.5 is tough. I say all that not to say Hall isnt a good player but would need a lot of work before he becomes effective; off hand , defensively, speed, ball handling. Cousins isn't too far ahead of him but I like him and his eligibility a bit more at this point. Lol

Hall is every bit of 6'5 .. But like I said .. We will agree to disagree for now.. Not to say Cousins isn't good..but to me Thad is better.  And you are right.. We do need a lot right now.

Not sure if this appeared in any other thread, but during Lavin's interview during the game he mentioned that he expects to bring in a great recruiting class, maybe HIS BEST EVER.  I mean, how could that be?  Didn't he have the consensus #1 class overall at UCLA one year?  I'm guessing the word BEST has to be very subjective.

He could be sending a message to the potential recruits that they could be part of something real special.  These kids know he was talking to them as much, if not more so, than the fans.

Would be nice if in the words of Al MgGuire Lavs brings us the aircraft carrier that backs up the entire fleet.

Let's be honest here, playing for SJU isn't quite the same scrutiny as playing for the Yankees.   If it were.. Norm would've been fired after 1 season.

Based on the available information, and barring the near impossible task of landing Noel and/or Muhammad, I think Lavin's statement that this recruiting class may be his "best" at SJU, to be true as compared with the current class playing (not just recruited) for 2012, he would need to land, IMO: Jakarr, Obekpa and C. Morris to go along with Branch.
