Syracuse's star wing, Kris Joseph, is a 6'7 210 senior leading the #1 team in the country in scoring.  Joseph is a projected first rounder and is hitting three's at an impressive clip of 37.8% (4.1 attempts per game)  while shooting an equally impressive 80.5% from the free throw line (3.9 attempts).

As a frosh, Joseph shot 26.9% (about 1 attempt per game) from three and a disturbing 40.4% (1.5 attempts) from the free throw line.  Joseph's 3 PT % actually fell to 22% as a soph, when he earned a starting spot.  That number jumped to 36.6% as a junior.

Travon Woodall of Pitt shot 8.3% from three as a frosh, 26.9% as a soph, 29.3% as a junior and was shooting 42.1% before he got hurt this season.  Improving his FT shooting % from 50% as a frosh to 72.8% as a junior and 85% as senior.

What's the point? I think we have a some shooters on our current roster.  It's tough to see that because we don't have a freaking point guard penetrating and kicking to open, set shooters on a consistent basis.  Also, the guys taking those shots are taking them off of tired legs.  The %'s will climb, fellas.

Its a bit of a reach saying that our freshman will improve because Syracuse's has.
How often does a Syracuse not dramatically improve the next season?

How often do our freshman come back as bad asses the next year? I can remember Lavor Postell.

Kemba Walker as a freshman shot .271 from 3, as a sophomore shot .339. We have a sharpshooter in Harrison & Greene/Harkless can be very good 3 point shooters given time. Pointer & Garret will gradually improve. Don't know much about Branch but have heard he is a pretty good shooter & depending on his work ethic, should be much better next year due to not playing in games giving him more time to workout and put up shots.

Why would we recruit some mid-major at best player who can only shoot when we could spend the time working on Sampson, Gathers, Sheppard etc? As I said on Redmen, Great athletes can become great shooters, great shooters can not become good athletes.

Poison, almost everybody improves, that's the point.  It's ridiculous to think these kids have reached anywhere near their ceilings in any facet of the game at this point in the freshman season, even with the incredible amounts of minutes they're playing.  I think those minutes are a blessing for experience sake but a curse because these kids are tired and don't get to watch others and learn from them.  The first will be rectified next year (hopefully along with some genuine size to compete down low and a real PG in Branch) but will miss out on the latter, except for watching other teams guys.

Where in my post did I disagree with you?

How they improve will up to the staff and each kid'd individual work ethic. I have been saying the sane thing for over a decade.

They're not mutually exclusive.

33%
37%
38%
34%
Geno's shooting % from Frosh to Senior seasons

Getting older doesn't always make you better. You have to have skill and work ethic.
Will Harrison and Harkless get better, probably. Will Greene, Pointer and Garrett become better shooters? Tough to say. At the momemnt they would all have to improve just be bad shooters.

Lawrence was the product of an inept coach with no talent around him.  He could have been a very good college player in the right system.  He was never a shoote nor was he a scorer, but Norm consistently and publicly stated they needed Geno and Mase to score more.

A point guard is an extension of the coach on the floor...that staff was a terrible thing to extend to the floor.

Regardless, you have to be fair about Geno.  Surely his overall shooting %'s were atrocious, but he did improve from three.  28% as a frosh, 28.2% as a soph...a huge jump to 37% as a junior and a very disappointing senior year that saw him fall back to 25.8%.

Say what you want about the kid, but I'm convinced he would have bee a very productive backup PG at a school like Pitt or in a similar system.   He could have been a gem at a school like Butler as well.  I'd love to have him on this current team.

I always felt like Geno rode Sebastian Telfairs Coattails and got tossed a bone from a program (which I love!) that was having a hard time securing recruits after the Jarvis Years!
