Staff sent them to Rise, staff asked Omari to leave along with Stith. Staff couldn't convince Polee or his father to stay. Staff chose not to pursue Ron Roberts. So whose fault is it that there were 9 scholarships available?

All excellent points that we are all aware of.  Not much you can do about an overbearing daddy, but I do agree with you about OL and RR in the short term.  Regardless, I would still stick with Lavin going forward even knowing they would leave/be pushed out.  After all they would ultimately be "plugs" and not help develop the future.  O has not seen the court and Ron is playing in the right conference.  You missed Q who in my mind was  under rated and could have been a valuable sub off the bench.

My question was would the present/future be better with Lavin or with Norm/other candidate in your eyes?

Forgot about Quincy. All guys mentioned would have had a ton of experince which is crucial as we have seen.

Obvious answer is Lavin, but he needs to actually coach this team. Not be a GM

Obvious answer is Lavin!  That is great.. Now we are making progress. So why are you spamming the site with the sky is falling? We have no recruits. The team is a mess etc.  No one wants to lose this year, but am assuming that we all "get" that it is for the best and that we will be stronger going forward.  Winning an extra 3 games this year because of Pollee, Omari or Ron Roberts would make you feel more confident in the program?

Yes having those 3 would be great.

The team is a mess and we have no recruits, besides a backup PG from an average team.

Baldi getting taken to the wood shed I love it.

Lavin said last year it would take two years to build the roster.  He took chances on two talented guys in Sampson and Pelle.  Two that were worth taking a chance on.  It didn't work out.  Stop acting like you want Lavin to stock the roster with valedictorians.

Ha.. I guess you have your opinion, but I would take this "mess" of a team and that blue chip point guard from TX over Norm or any other possible candidate's roster.  I can not even begin to imagine what Norm would be running out there this year.  At least we see hope right now.

What does Norm have to do with this years team? The scholarship and roster situation is on the current staff.

He also said 3 years on another occasion. Like you mentioned the guys were worth the risk.

I just look at the time it took Jay Wright to get Nova back and that's a very reasonable timeline for me although I think with the right recruits we are right back in it next year

You are right.  Having to replace an entire roster had nothing to do with Norm.   What were your expectations for this year before the Rise situation?

With 2 or 3 more players, 17 wins

I just got called a troll by Baldi.  Now that is funny.  Everyone sees right through you.  Our fan base would be creaming our pants over Amir Garrett in any other year.  This year he is our sixth best recruit.  But keep demanding that Lavin returns to the sideline instead of resting after having cancer surgery.

That was very funny for sure! And you are a good mod that should not be insulted by a former mod:)

I am not sure about the loyalty of a few of the posters here because I have no idea if they are actually alums or some guys who adopted St. John's as their basketball team. At least we know Baldi is an Iona guy and that program gets his primary loyalty. He is clearly an interloper here and finds it easy to find fault at every opportunity. When you ask a question that will expose their illogic they will invariably respond with another question meant to further ridicule the coaches or the program.
They will manufacture situations with players, second-guess a surgeon and re-introduce "difference-makers" like Omar Lawrence who would have had as much an impact on this team as does Jamal White. Ron Roberts decommitted when Norm was finally fired, two years too late and Stith was given an option to leave but stayed. Had he left, signing a JC point guard would have been of greater value to this team as is now obvious with his lack of skills.
Many posters here are experts in one thing only and it is hindsight. Three recruits at RISE? How many players prior to these three were deemed ineligible by the NCAA? The experts here will not answer that question but of course they would have known better.
Nurideen Lindsey transferred because he was being poorly prepared by Dunlap, Hines and Chiles during practices and any advice Hall of Fame coach Keady gave was not to his high standards. That could be the only reason Nuri tanked in games against Kentucky and Detroit and the main reason he shot zero % from threes and was able to hit just 2 jump shots in nine games. The very thought of his losing his starting PG job to Phi Greene caused him to transfer to a higher profile program......Rider.......in the lowly MAAC?
Yes, the main problems are lack of experience and lack of depth but do not expect any interlopers here to mention that even with 3 of the original 2011 recruits gone St. John's has 4 top 100 first year players for the first time in a quarter century on the same team. Norm Roberts had 6 years and could not accomplish that. Jamal Branch was a top 10 high school point guard as rated by ESPN and Rivals. That makes 5 top 100 players to date and a couple of more in the 2012 class will make it seven top 100 players. Those are pretty damn good numbers if you are a Uconn or a Louisville. At St. John's it is unheard of and the half-hearted fans with deep hater issues cannot be happy about the future.
And, NO, just because one frequents this site does not automatically make them a SJ fan.  Some are just angry birds looking for a place to act quak-quak.

To be fair if you want to condem this staff then what did you think about Derwin Kitchen and Rob Thomas for Norm Robert's first class? Both deemed inelegible out of a 5 man class. Not to mention Q Calhoun transferred too. The %'s of inelegible's and transfers were greater than this year's class.

Fair is fair but I don't remember you being up in arms then.

Put the shovel away. You're digging yourself deeper.

If Q stays on scholarship he either never plays or St. John's misses out on a player due to lack of scholarship or player thinking he will take a back seat to Jr/Sr guard. Q couldn't be happier at Grambling. He wanted to go to a school with that culture and he's the go to guy on that team. Positive transfer.

As for Nuri and Pelle. Who wouldn't take a stab at the #1 rated C in the country in his class? C'mon can you really come up with any logic not to roll the dice there on 6'10 athletic freak? So he's 18 and a little confused, it didn't work, thats life. Nuri backfired plain and simple. He could have been really good if he would have bought in but he was way more of disaster than publicly known. If he stuck around he would have poisoned this team catastrophically with his negative opinions and ethic.

I think some of your opinions are fair but when its the focus of a majority of your posts that appear to be jabs its why people lash out at you so much.

Saying that Lavin "lost" these guys is a loose way of looking at things. It's like being upset the chef trimmed some fat off your prime rib.

-Omari didn't work hard here. He wasn't going to play ever. The staff was up front and honest with him.

-Polee never stepped foot into weight room, never participated in any volunteer workouts, he didn't have a position, and he expected to be treated special. The staff wasn't interested. Could his talents have been a positive contribution to this team? Absolutely but responsibility fell on his shoulders. It's disappointing it didn't work.

-Thomas and Wood didn't choose to leave St. John's, St. John's chose not to choose them for different reasons. We'll see if either qualify.

-I've already addressed Q, Nuri, and Pelle.

If you want to talk about guys Lavin lost then look at LeBryan Nash, Katin Reinhardt, & Kyle Anderson. If you want to talk about guys Norm Roberts' lost we could be here for a while. Like I said be fair. You're harping on issues you never touched with Norm Roberts so why are you now?

My main issue is I don't see this team winning more than two games the rest of the way, and I couldn't even tell you which two games we will win.  I seriously think we have a legit chance to not win a single game teh rest of the way.  And how will/would that affect the team moving forward?  Will kids transfer? Will recruits shy away?

So you can't say which games they'll be but you boldly make a prediction? C'mon this is why you get killed by people as being negative. If actually added some substance to your statement then people might take your opinion as valid, might not agree with it, but they could at least understand your logic.

I'd set the bar at a realistic 5 for the under/over with 12 games remaining. Duke and Syracuse are the only guaranteed losses in my opinion while the other games are all winnable.

Duke is obviously better than us, but with that said they arent a terrible match up for us either. I Dont think they will beat us that badly

St. John's defense forces teams to shoot and that's Duke's bread and butter shoot 20 three's a game. Duke is deep and Plumlees will be relentless on the glass. I can't see how you feel that's favorable at all.
