Bill Goodwin and Kevin Williams also drafted from that team - about the most disappointing of all Lou's disappointments. Bobby f'reaking Kelly

I mentioned this before but worth repeating. I was the ball ball for the USBL Staten Island Stallions and Kevin Williams was on the team and was the leading scorer in the whole league. Averaged 33 points a game. Hot Rod Williams waiting to be reinstated by NBA after Tulane scandal. Ken Bannister. this guy from Georgia U Joe Ward who had the most ridiculous hops I had ever seen and Turner a point guard from Mich ST that played with Skiles were all on the team. Billy Goodwin barely played for the Long Island team.

As a side note I mentioned to Goodwin that I was a huge SJU fan during warmups and he spent the whole warm up time talking with a 14 year old kid. Really nice guy. Kevin Williams on the other hand was a jack off.  Maybe that is why Louie started Kelly over him.

The first game my dad  took me to was against Gtown when Williams went after Ewing.  Kid was a tough SOB.

I watched Blue Chips and that Fab 5 documentary. Kids can get all sorts of things. Just ask Abe Keita who btw should not have warranted a happy meal either.

Abe Keita shouldn't have warranted not only a Happy Meal, but he didn't deserve one of those garbage toys that Mickey D's place in the box.

He did not fare so well if memory serves. Still I will give him credit for the effort. In one of those games Billy Goodwin beat up David Wingate. This was back when fighting was acceptable in the BE. You didn't get thrown out and I am not sure you even got a tech. They should go back to those days.

When Amir first got here, it was clear he was lost in our offense and defense. But slowly he's worked himself in and I think he's been improving every single game. Just look at the stat lines. He can be overly aggressive on defense sometimes but look what he did against Villanova with the steal and layup.

He runs the fast break very well, and is a very good passer as others have pointed out. I'm not sure how much baseball will affect his development, but if he chose one or the other I think it would be beneficial for him in the long run. If he sticks with basketball, he would most likely be good enough to head overseas ofter his 4 years here, and he has the potential to sign on with an NBA team if he gets stronger and keeps developing.

Nice stats and it looked like he improved every year statistically until his senior year. Drafted in mid 2nd round. I thought he had nice form as I remember him shooting baseline jumpers. Again I was young and my memory of those early SJU teams is I am sure skewed very positively. In fact I am pretty sure I would vote for Walter Berry for President.

David Russell comparison is very good. Amir primarily played baseball when he was young, only beginning to play basketball after his 8th grade year. He will have from the end of the season until he has to report to the Reds in late May or earl June to work on his weaknesses. Once he develops his right hand, his game will vastly improve. We also must remember that he had no pre-season this year.

Williams had issues but was one of the best athletes Lou ever recruited IMHO

For a player wit such hops, its a shockin how lil air he gets between his feet and the floor when he shoots a J.
Parking only for NYCHA permit holders.

Despite not having a great handle or ball handling capability he sure knows how to finish strong on the break.

It's true.  Amir has those long arms and such great hops.  If he elevates he can get a jump-stop type jumper off over pretty much anybody.

Would be a nice weapon if we can start getting him the ball in mid-range.    But that's the kind've thing that a point guard does, get people the ball in position to score.   J Branch can't get in there soon enough.

...Will be a monster in transition and at some point he could lead the break quite effective

At IS8 I saw both Garrett and Pointer position themselves for offensive rebounds and lead the break very effectively.
We saw what a weapon a one man fast break could be with a big guy who can board and pass with Brownlee last year. That's Garrett.

Granted Amir didn't get any offensive bounds in the Nova game but he did get 7 at the other end. Pointer got 9 bounds 4 of which were at the offensive end and wound up being more than half of the pathetic total (7) that we got at that end. Both guys are capable - a là Oakley - to take very good angles for a board,

It seems like he made his choice already...and lucky for us he chose basketball

Really JJ?  I don't think anything is certain.   I expect Amir back next year, and for his junior and senior seasons but there's definitely a possibility he leaves at some point.

I think he's just put off the decision for now.

He gave his baseball signing bonus back? Wow that takes some stones!
But seriously since I am fairly certain he did not how is your statement accurate?

If he wanted baseball he wouldn't be here.  The kid was ruled ineligible and instead of sticking with baseball full time he decided to go to prep school in Maine.  That tells me he wants to play basketball over baseball.

Anything is possible and he may end up going to baseball but unless he does great and the Reds sweeten the deal to make him quit...I see him here for 4 years.  Besides the kid looks like he is having a lot of fun when he is out on the court.

Above is his game log. He's still raw but he's cracking the rotation more and more. What do you like that he brings to the table? What does he need to work on? Who does he remind you of?

Highest basketball IQ on the team...sees the floor, understands spacing and how to find the holes in the opposing defense. Aggressive, with a borderline mean streak on the floor. Long, athletic, and all the other obvious stuff people have pointed out. Absolutely love this kid...he has winner written all over him. Does all the little things, has no ego on the floor. Very definition of a "glue guy".

The downside: absolutely no right hand, a worse J than Nurideen Lindsey, and apprently doenst know that he has a worse J than Nuri because he insists on shooting threes when he has literally no chance of making them. It has nothing to do with him being rusty...saw him a bunch on TV last year and he was a bricklayer then too. Needs to stick to slashing to the hole and shooting the ball within 5 feet of the basket.

I think the highest IQ goes to Harrison. Hands down IMO. I agree with everything else you say about Amir except for his J. Amir has already hit 1 three pointer which is more than Lindsey ever hit. I dont think his jumper is that terrible. I think hell be able to hit an open spot up three in due time.
*wipes ketchup from his eyes* - I guess Heinz sight isn’t 20/20.

Don't know if his jumper is worse than Nuri.  I actually saw Amir hit jumpers last year at a good clip.  I saw Nuri hit 2 in 9 games ha.

Worse than Nuri might have been harsh...maybe "as bad as.." I watched a bunch of Findlay games last year and it was the same thing as this year...not just misses, but total bricks. Wherever you think he stands on the Nuri scale, one thing is for sure...he needs a lot more work before he shoots from outside of five feet on a regular basis. Just keep doing all the (many) other things you're good at Amir...I'd rather see you hit a backdoor cutter with a sweet bounce pass than clang another three!
