Starting Lineup
« on: January 24, 2012, 10:31:40 PM »
so last week we started AG instead of SDP.   I have a feeling we'll see it again tomorrow.

With that in mind, i think the 2nd half starting lineup is of greater importance.  We are off to slow starts and need to make sure we position ourselves in a manner that gets our best lineup on the floor for a quick competitive 2nd half. I'd like to see

DLO - PG
Mo - SG
AG - SF
SDP - PF
GG - PF

it's a long athletic lineup that can get DLO and Mo as many touches as possible.

what do others think?

I don't think the starting line-up w/ a 7 man rotation (IMO....a 6 man rotation) really matters.

I like Harrison off the ball and Greene has played well as a PG.  I hate when Greene shoots, but he runs the point much better than I expected.  That being said, I think Greene is the 3rd option when we're talking about jump shots!

Think Dom comes in and brings a lotta energy and a bit more O off the bench.

Parking only for NYCHA permit holders.

Phil has developed a nice tear drop pullup shot. We need that offense. He is the only player we have who gets any penetration at all.

Starting lineups really don't matter for us other than trying to get a good start in the game. For the most part 6 guys play 30 minutes a game with Stith getting the rest.

I agree. The time to pull him from the starting line up might have been after a bad game. He and Harrison scored 42 points against Nova. Let's see what happens tonight.

He is shooting 33%. He is averaging 2 and a half assists and almost 2 to's a game. Only the fact that Malik Boothe once started for us prevents him from being the worst PG that we have ever had. I get that he is starting due to circumstances out of his control. But he is really bad. Hopefully he improves and with better talent he could become a productive 4th guard on a solid team.

Really bad?  C'mon, dude!  The kid was a top 150-200 player.  What were you expecting?  The freshmen version of Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf (formerly, Chris Jackson) when he was at LSU?  He's an average player at this stage (who has shown glimpses) who has a chance to certainly improve.  Due to those circumstances you mentioned above has caused him to have more responsibilities and tote more minutes than he was gonna get from the onset.

He has too much on his plate, per se', at this moment.  I believe he'll be a solid, four year player when it's all said and done.  I feel he'll be one of those glue guys.

I agree. Greene has been given the task of running the team on the floor. A team full of newcomers. Tough for a guy to learn the PG position on the fly in this conference with 1 veteran to look to(who happens to be his backup) and the head coach on sick leave. Thats alot to deal with. Hopefully the Nova game was a step in the right direction, lets see where he takes it tonight

See I am not a huge stat guy. But I am not prepared to totally ignore them either . Geez a movie is nominated for an acadamy award that is based purely on baseball stats. If we do away with stats what will they show on scoreboards under a player picture? Instead of David Wright has 20 HR's 86 Rbi's they will show his favorite color is blue and he likes kittens? I understand stats can be misleading but if the SJU statsheet could post he would post Phil Greene is really bad.

Greene was ranked pretty high be ESPN, If I remember correctly he was right outside the top 100 w a scouts grade of 91. He had a good game against Nova. We are to thin to alter the lineup much, have to provide some breathers to the players.

The love of your life Larry Wright averaged 3 assists and 2 to's a game as a senior on a tournament team playing the point for a lot of those minutes.
*wipes ketchup from his eyes* - I guess Heinz sight isn’t 20/20.

Lets start some of the walkons and Stith.  Then bring in the regulars.  It will change the matchups for the rest of the half.

Wait, Stith is not a walkon?

That doesn't really matter?

I think Phil Greene is a good player who has been forced into a role that hasn't accented his strengths and have glorified his weaknesses. He's not a true PG and he's been forced to play that position for 30mpg as a freshman.

If Phil came in off the bench as a change of pace guard, I think he'd be able to contribute more efficiently. He's seeing some growing pains now but I think it will make him a better player in the future.

If you don't start Phil Greene, I think Harrison's ability to get into score mode is limited with him being the only ball handler out on the floor.

Greene
Harrison
Pointer/Garrett
Harkless
Gift

I do think Pointer can be a better energy/spark guy off the bench than Garrett. He can lift the team's defensive intensity tremendously after the 1st media timeout and dial up the zone with a lineup of Harrison, Garrett, Pointer, Harkless, Gift/Greene pending on matchups.

Completely outside of the box give Stith the token Boothe start and have Greene come off the bench in a more comfortable role. Greene can also come in for offensive spark where as what does Stith bring off the bench? Ball handling? Let Stith be a pure distributor to start the game and push the pace.
