Wasju I think he is gonna far better than what we think. If he bust his ass this summer and tighten up his handle he is gonna be a for real problem. I mean a very scary person to guard

KOB is right.  Nobody guards Green closely because he separates so fast.  He just doesn't know what to do with it yet once he beats his man.  Some work and he'll be real good.  You can see he has the tools.

Doesn't know what to do with it? Isn't that a pretty common basketball instinct to score or pass?

It comes easier to some at this level.  Greene is learning to do both at is level as indicated by hs ramped up production lately.   Needs to tighten the handle and shot and be more aggressive as he has been of late.

Offensively, it's actually pretty spot if you look at Paris and Phil as freshman. Paris, was able to play his natural position.

Paris as freshman from 3 puts that comparison away.

I don't recall Horne standing out for 5 seconds his freshman year. The comparison if anything shows that Greene is a more complete player.

I have to stop picking on him. It is more towards the posters that keep gushing how great he is going to be. I just don't see it. I do not love his shot and he does not have good instincts, especially at the point. With Branch, Harrison and the need for another shooter, I  just don't see Greene having the future some of you are predicting.

Those years were very forgettable.

You (royal) have to distinguish between now and then. Phil Greene, right now, stinks. He should not be playing and in a perfect world, like most freshmen, he'd be on the bench. (Of course in a perfect world my bong would have a vagina, so there's that.) However, posters want to be able to say in two years, when he doesn't stink, that they recognized his potential three years ago. Hence the Greene-dulation, which in other situations has led posters to laud inter alia, Malik Stith, Tomas Jasilionustein, and Phil Wait. Because everyone wants to get in on the ground floor. On the other hand you (not the royal) are being a little hard on him. He's long, he's athletic, he gets to the basket, and he shows signs of aggression on the offensive end. His defense is not atrocious. Yes his handle is a little sloppy and yes his shot needs work. He seems a little crazy on the court and for that reason reminds me a little of .... wait for it ... Bernard Rencher. It coul be much worse, and has been.

He is just a rough watch playing the point. I know this is not his natural position, but it is the position he is forced to play and we are forced to watch him play. Does Greene have potential? Sure, as you mentioned long arms, good athlete. Can he get better? I would hope so. My point is we need another outside shooter. Eventually Lavin will have to address that. Harrison, Branch and outside shooter X will severly limit Greenes minutes even if he does improve.

I disagree that we need another shooter - because I think Harrison is going to light it up - but agree that either way Greene is the odd man out. Assuming TGAPL gets at least one big who starts at the 5, that puts GG (or whoever) at the 4, Harkless to the 3, Branch and Harrison to 1 and 2, with Greene and Pointer first off the bench. Which works for me. And assuming Harkless is gone by 2014, Greene is either the starting 3 in his junior year, or 6th man if Pointer starts. All in all this is a good problem to have - regardless of how Greene stacks up against Paris Horne, Horne was one of our better players, even as an underclassman, whereas Greene isn't. He might have been a find under Betelguse, but now he's a 4-year player in a situation where the coach is aiming to recruit 2-year players.

Cliches and Cliches for a reason.

I guess Ewing, Mullin, Anthony, Harkless, Coleman, Mourning, Dehere, Barkley and  Pearl  just to name a few BE frosh were not cliches.
Then there is the case of Felipe Lopez and Justin Burrell who played their best as frosh and seemingly got worse every year. Though both turned it around their senior year with better coaching.

Of course you named 5 HOF players....I would say that in those cases, with the exception of Melo, they got better after their freshman year,  therefore making the cliche appropriate?

Just guys off the top of my head but I think Pearl Washington, Mo Harkless, Terry Dehere and Derrick Coleman would be very happy with your HOF vote for them.

I said 5, not all of them.  Ewing, Mullin, Barkley, Mourning, and Anthony ( borderline for sure) were the guys i took from your list.

Felipe was at his best his senior year. There is no question about that.

All of the Phil haters are turning into crickets on these boards.  Looks like J Branch is going to need to work for PT.
