How do you all think Moe compares to Kevin Jones?  Curious to hear your thoughts.

Kevin Jones is not an NBA player. I think those 2 inches and longer wingspan make a big difference.

Both listed at 6'8.  Granted Jones at 260 and Moe at 180.  Jones is a rebounding machine as Moe is.  Jones can knock down the 3 as well.

Imo,difference is Jones has hit his ceiling. Not criticizing, he has a spot in NBA somewhere

Jeff Adrien is in the league, Jones will be too.

So is Eduardo Najera

I have a good source that saw Moe at Taco bell at 1am a year ago ordering a cheesy gordita. Guess that makes him latino

Chad Ford just wrote this about Moe on his Draft Blog on ESPN:

Quote
Stock check

• We've been raving about a number of elite freshmen this year, but up until now haven't given St. John's diaper dandy Moe Harkless the credit he deserves. Harkless came onto the scene this year with a rep as a super athletic wing that still had a way to go on the offensive end of the floor. But through this weekend's games, he's been the fourth leading scorer among freshmen and is coming off the best game of his career: a 30-point, 13-rebound performance against Duke in front of a handful of NBA scouts. He also recently put up 23 and 13 against West Virginia and 20 and 10 in a loss to Georgetown. He's doing all this while playing out of position at power forward -- and even a little center -- for the Red Storm.

Harkless' main gifts are elite athleticism, NBA length and a nonstop motor. He's still relatively raw offensively, lacks a consistent jumper and doesn't really have a strong enough handle to consistently create his own shot. But he plays well without the ball, attacks and is an excellent finisher around the basket.

Ideally, Harkless would stay in school and work hard over the summer to improve his stroke and handle. But while Harkless still has plenty to work on, his strong play in one of the toughest conferences in college basketball, as a freshman, is encouraging scouts. If he declares, it's doubtful he's a lottery pick. But a late first-rounder or early second-round pick? That's looking pretty realistic.

Says what we all expect. Moe isn't a lottery pick in this strong draft class. Playing at St. John's might be his last chance to play in in front of his family on a consistent basis. I doubt the support team that he has around him would push him towards the draft this year.

For St. John’s freshman Moe Harkless, the accolades are nice, but they are not enough.

On Monday he was tabbed the Big East Rookie of the Week for the first time after two games where he totaled 53 points and 24 rebounds. In a loss at No. 7 Duke on Saturday he had 30 points and 13 rebounds – probably his best effort of the season and the first time a Red Storm player has scored 30 at Duke.

“It's a great honor and evidence of how much we are growing as a team,” said the 6-8 forward, who had 23 points and 11 rebounds in a win over West Virginia last Wednesday. “As we continue throughout the season we see our team improving more and more each game, we hope that awards like this are just the beginning, and that more wins come and with them, more honors for all of us.”

Moe has such a great combination of deceptive quickness and body control.  I hope he continues to play with that chip on his shoulder exhibited in the Duke game.

I'm pretty sure Mo will be back at least one more season.  I wouldn't expect much more than that though.  He has some areas he has to work on and is still a raw talent.  He certainly has all the tools though.  He will enter next season though, mas one of the top SF's in the country.  Good to have in our side.  Harrison may be one of the better SG's as well.  Now we only need a PF and a big guy to help up front.

Chad Ford calls Mo an "elite athlete.". That is not true...he is a good athlete, but he's not an elite athlete by any means.

Really? What is your definition of an elite athlete? He can play all 5 positions and makes everything he does look effortless.  You say some pretty crazy stuff marillac but this is one of your more outlandish statements

I'm not saying I want him to play point or that he in any way should, but simply that he could play point.  Do I think he should play center for us?  No, but he does sometimes and has done an admirable job doing it.  If the other team was pressing and I had the option of who could bring up the ball: Greene, Stith, or Harkless.  I am taking Harkless all day long.

I think athleticism is relative.  Is Mo as good an athlete as Nate Robinson? (Is he as quick/fast and can he jump his own body height?)  No.  But he's also 6'9" not 6'.  For a man of his size, he is uber athletic in my opinion.  I think also, his smoothness detracts from his appeared athleticism and effort at times, similar to Carlos Beltran running down a fly ball in the outfield.

Thankfully Lavin didn't ask you to step in for him in his absence, because I love Moe.. but there's no way he has the handle or ball security that even Greene or Stith do.   Moe's not a point guard under any circumstances, even for a minute.

One thing I love about moe's game that I think is understated is his ability to finish around the rim.  We have had SO MANY bigs over the last ten years that either/and could not catch the pass under the basket, or finish when they did catch it.  I trust whenever he receives the pass down low, that he will catch it and find a way to finish.  You can see that my expectations after the last ten years, aren't much. ;D

Have you seen what happens when stith gets pressed?  He can't see over taller players and picks up his dribble and then throws errant passes.  As far as Greene, I am not a fan. I said I wouldn't want Moe playing point I simply stated that in a pinch he could.  He has a good enough handle and sees the floor well.  My comment came in the context of Marillac saying that Moe wasn't an elite athlete.

Early on Mo was getting into trouble putting the ball down, and dribbling into traffic. He's making better choices from where and when to make his move. No one looks like a point guard when kicking it out of bounds. He's looking real good lately.
