SCheese, you seem to be happy when bad things happen to this team.

This is sad news.  Stith brought maturity to the team and they young guys looked up to him and respected him.  And he has showed class time and time again, first in sticking with Lavin as a "new beginning" as opposed to going the transfer route like others, then later taking a leadership role with the team even though it meant remaining as a backup.  I always felt he hustled his butt off on the court.  I felt like he was an important part of our team.

I just don't get it.  How will becoming a student manager for the team -- or whatever title they give it -- help Stith with his family obligations?  He said this was a decision that was made in the best interests of his family or something like that.  Is someone in his family ill who he needs to care for?  Does he need to get a job on the outside to generate an income while he goes to school?  Perhaps an academic issue was behind this.

I dont get it. Hope the kids alright.
*wipes ketchup from his eyes* - I guess Heinz sight isn’t 20/20.

Anybody know the true Hollywood story?

Withdrawing from the team at this point just seems like an extreme measure.  Obviously we need him now.  Things may change in the future, but we have no bench now.  Of course it is always hard to penetrate the media statements for some actual truth.  But to withdraw at this point is not something that could be self-serving to Stith.  First off, he is playing so he isn't upset about PT.  Secondly, withdrawing at this point isn't going to protect any future eligibility to play elsewhere, as he has already exhausted his 3rd year, so even if he were interested in transferring it would not make sense to do it now (that is, just wait till the end of the season).  Thirdly, if it were an academic issue, it would not make sense for HIM to withdraw, although it might be in the best interests of the team if he were in some kind of academic trouble to have him jump ship before we have a player ruled ineligible for academic issues.  Student athletes have access to educational resources that regular students do not have.  This is obviously not a SJU thing, but is the state of play for NCAA athletes everywhere.  Not being on the team, might, perhaps, exclude him from these resources (but I don't know, maybe being "student manager" or whatever qualifies him for the same access to resources).  Athletes at SJU have no excuse if they don't succeed, as the school really empowers them to do well with help and resources.

Maybe we'll hear the real story, maybe not.  I just can't figure out the timing of this thing.  If Malik sticks with SJU and graduates, I wish him the best of luck.  I wouldn't be suprised, however, if at the end of the academic year we start hearing rumblings of Stith moving on to another school.  Not sure what his academics are like but he sure would have a lot of fun playing out a last year of eligibility at some small college somewhere we he could be THE MAN.  I am not talking D1 here.

Maybe he goes to St Francis with Braica. I'd like to see it happen. Sit out the year, get your sht straight and enjoy your last season of ball

And as usual, he hides when someone calls him on it.

Hurts losing less than 2 ppg for 15mpg this season, helps long term. He should have left with Omari but chose to ride it out. Unfortunate that things happen but in the end lets not make this out to be a bigger deal than it is.

Wish him the best and move on.

Excuse me, no, but the season isn't over, and he quit on this team. This isn't good news in any regard. Yes, he's awful, but it's on him to recognize that he's awful and the 15 minutes per game he was given was a gift.

I don't think he should transfer to the Northeast conference. He's not talented enough to play in that conference.

I supported him when he worked hard, and despite playing as badly as any SJ player ever had, I respected him for trying, and now, I want him off the bench, and off the team. He is a disgrace to this program.

Our fanbase can just be ridiculous sometimes.  Every little thing and a huge faction acts like the Titanic is sinking.  I wish Malik well.  We don't know what drove him to this.  He's not getting minutes now and he sees Jamal Branch killling it in practice and Lavin going after a ton of recruits--it's clear he wasn't going to see the court next season.  You gotta feel for a kid in that situation.

The truth is that we can replace him with a more talented JUCO rather easily.  Right down the street at Monro CC, Davon Marshall...sharp-shooter.

Killing it in practice? They might as well be scrimmaging against Baldi,Marillac,Wasju,PMG and Dave in practice
