If reports (NY Post-Robbins) are true that Malik left over lack of PT than that is a real joke. Hey Malik do you realize you have basically sucked for over 2 and a half years despite being given many opportunities to earn PT. Maybe Norm inflated your ego and you didn't realize you were playing 3 levels over your head. At best you are a D3 non scholly level player and I use the term player loosely. Take a hike!

HOw much PT did he get under Norm?

They took us back to the tourney....because of Lavin and staff.   Norm wasn't getting them there, and I believe you've conceded that.  I loved them too...but no more than I love our Super Six currently.

Who remembers after nuri transfered i had posted that, based on the locker room rumblings i heard, nuri would not be the last to leave and stith would probably be next. yes i used the word "transfer" because i underestimated stiths dislike of dunlap and i didnt consider he would rather give up college bball alltogether this season rather than play for dunlap. everyone (except for Marco Baldi and a couple others) refused to believe me and said things like "no player would up and leave in the middle of the season" and "you have no idea what your talking about, you should be banned from posting on JJ" and "when you get cancer i hope everyone writes you off" among other comments and name calling. Well for everyone that doubted what i had said, unfortunately for Stjbb, we have lost another player.

Everyone who is trying to discredit Stiths ability or accomplishments can do that all they want to, but there is no possible way to deny that stith leaving is a huge blow to this program, especially in its current state. They are struggling to put a half decent product on the floor, have no bench, and have not brought in any top recruits as of yet. every recruit lav is targeting is understandably highly reluctant to sign on because of what they are seeing on the court this  year, along with all the uncertainties around Lav. When known/recognizable players like nuridean leave, or even less known players like stith,  that hampers all recruiting efforts greatly. Not to mention that this current season we have no bench and need all the bodies we can get, so Stiths leave not only hurts us in recruiting but tangibly effects our court play this season. however, most fans probably wrote off this season, but this departure will have an undeniable effect in terms of recruiting.

While there are many causes of concern for st johns basketball right now (our bench, transfers/departures, recruiting, status of HC, wins-losses, etc.), the one issue where we are solid, for now, is the staff. even though some of them will be leaving after the season, the world class staff is the one component currently holding everything together and keeping it from falling to shreds. For all the dunlap bashers, I credit Dunlap for the 10-14 record, and if it werent for him the record would be somewhere in the 5-19 range, or possibly even 20 losses. Yes, Stith left due to issues with dunlap. even though stith is my friend, i think hes wrong in this particular case, i even told him he should tough it out. Dunlaps practices, by all accounts, are much tougher, more intense, and disciplined than Norms were. Dunlap has been coaching all the practices since lavin hired him, even when lav was fully healthy. I dont agree with stith's decision, but i understand it. his conflict with dunlap is between him and dunlap, and I dont blame dunlap for pushing stith out, im upset stith chose to leave but like i siad i understand it. dunlap and stith had two completely different visions and opinions as to how stith should be playing. It had nothing to do with PT, it was all about playing style. having said that however, i do hold lav accountable for pushing out omari, quincy, and even ron roberts, any of who we could def use right now. I dont blame lav for polee leaving, this incident was different and polee was not forced or pressured to leave, he left on his own accord based on what he was hearing from his father and others in his fam. this is not the case with omari, quincy or ron. I dont fully blame lav for nuri's departure but he did contribute to it, no doubt about it.

I don't think Dunlap is a genius by any stretch, and he may be hard on the players (we have no way of knowing that he is) however, if you quit your team in Mid-February, you are weak minded and selfish.

This isn't on Dunlap, unless he's putting the players in choke holds, man up, and work. What a pussy.

@bball_fan:

I'm not saying you are not friends with Stith, or that what you were told is incorrect, just merely going to state my opinion on the matter (strictly opinion).  What you claim Stith said about him not liking the "playing style" doesn't really make sense to me.  Not for nothing, is playing style really important when you're playing 5 minutes a game?  As far as practices being much more difficult the response is twofold.  First off, if you don't want a hard practice, don't play in the Big East.  Secondly, is this not the same coaching staff that was present last season?  I would imagine the practice style hasn't changed much (outside of having half the bodies).  In addition, if it was an issue with coach Dunlap (or anyone else for that matter), why come back this season only to leave with 8 games left?  It just leads me to believe personal reasons (such as family issues) makes more sense as a reason to bail now.  I wouldn't imagine there was any ill will if his father was seen at the game, but who knows, I'm not inside any of their heads.  Like I said, just my opinion.

As it stands, i'll believe what I read about Stith citing family reasons, and I still respect him for staying at SJU even though he was being recruited over with no chance of significant playing time.  I appreciate the hard work he has put in, as well as his help with getting our Fresh 5 accustomed to BE play.  I wish him the best of luck in the future.

I have a problem with people who selectively choose to post here. This is specifically directed to you bball_fan. If you were here through and through and posted regularly and decided to share this info than I'd be ok with it. In most aspects you are telling the truth with a few omitted areas. There are of course two sides to every story and you chose to share one.

You are right about Omari, Roberts, and Roberts leaving the program. They were wisely told that they wouldn't see playing time and would be recruited over. They chose to leave for better situations for themselves. They are all doing pretty well (Well Omari is still riding pine but for good program). This happens ALL the time with every program when new coaching staffs come in. What you conveniently left out was that Stith was also given that same speech and he wanted to stick it out. He knew exactly what was ahead of him, the challenges, etc.

Also with R Roberts there is no Polee so that argument is kind of moot point.

As for Dunlap he's 100% of the reason for Sean Evans turn around last season. He was ready to quit the team. Dunlap brought him into the fold, talked him out of it, and they put in extra work. It took Evans a half a season to stop being stubborn but he finally bought in and was rewarded. You've heard the saying you can only lead a horse to water. There's a lot of effort made by the staff to get these kids to the water, some drink, others quit.

Stith didn't do a lot of things he should have done as a student athlete and I'll leave it at that. He's gone and don't want to tarnish his reputation. Just as you shouldn't come here trying to tarnish the coaching staff's either. If this info was between Stith and you then why come here and air it out selectively? You come here and say I told you so then in the next breathe you say you have nothing to prove. Which is it?

Stith never played anyway but the lack of bodies is concerning.  This better be the last of the withdrawls/transfer or things will be tough.

We lost by 25 at home to Cincinnati. Things are tough. What Stith did was an awful display of selfish behavior.
Is he going to quit his job as a student assistant if he doesn't like the way it's going?
