Someone had an ax to grind with Colleary. This goes on at EVERY school. Big East tickets aren't on sale to the public. It's well documented that companies/schools "distribute" these tickets. Most employees look at this as a bonus.

Axe to grind?
Actually I find it ironic this happened a week after Cuse game when there were 3 Cuse fans in Orange shirts sitting in the athletic dept seats behind the STJ bench.

I dealt with Kevin Barry directly with my contributions the last couple of years and I know for a fact my donation went directly to the school. Got my membership and over a certain level you become a member of the Loughlin Society and I was invited to their events as well which would have been impossible if my donation wasn't recorded and accounted for.

It is not that Red/White donations are being stolen. No one is accused of that, yet. What has happened, and this is some of what I have been made aware of right now, is that Colleary sold tickets to scalpars/brokers that should have gone to Red/White members.

He, and others kept the profits from those sales. If it were just the athletic department doing this, and keeping the money,
it might not be illegal. It would be disgraceful, but possibly not illegal. Either way, EVERY Red/White member deserves more than just an explanation.

I hate this University. I truly do. And now you all know why.

Why would you continue to buy season tickets for a school you hate?  No offense, but that is as dumb as some of the stupidity you accuse others of on a regular basis.

I don't hate the basketball team. I hate the University. The school's shady rep is 100% justified. Not the first time St.John's people have stolen from alumni, students and donors.

I agree St.johns U def does have a shady rep when it comes to money, especially with current students. From constantly charging ridiculous and unneccessary fines/tickets, to holding back sending out our refund checks to the very last minute (and sometimes not sending them at all unless you keep on persistently calling/going to financial aid), to the embellezment charges on various high ranking, long standing employees, and now this ticket business. Stjohns students know  exactly how shady stjohns acts with money, and it's absolutely one of the major contributing factors to one of the worst student body retention rates in all of America (even they acknowledge this).
so many kids believe this a fine school with a great rep only to enroll here and be disappointed and transfer. Now I'm not saying that this is the only school that acts funny/shady in terms of money but certainly every school does not behave in this manor.

Yea St. John's is crazy for writing parking tickets to people who don't pay for parking permits like everyone else, handing out fines to kids who cause damage in the dorms, and making students pay for food and books. How dare they? They were so shady in not telling me if I didn't follow rules there would be consequences to pay.

Thats not what I was referring to. Whats your response to them not sending out refund check to some students unless you constantly pester FA? or how about the embezzlement cases or in this particular case the reselling of tickets? dave what do you blame for one of the worst national retention rates ?
O, God thy sea is so great and my boat is so small

You are way, way off on this one. And I don't care if this or anything like this happens at every other school. I donate money to this one. And as it turns out my donation and support for almost 30 years resulted in me losing my seats. So, forgive me if I want Colleary's head on a stick.

What is most disturbing is why did the University hire someone who was named in a federal sexual harassment suit.  After all the problems with the Jarvis administration/players, we went to Clean Norman to improve the image of the school.  Why didn't this extend to other facets of the athletic department.  Who did his background check?????

What do you donations have to do with tickets that belong to the university?

I guess I should watch out for guys like you when I get tickets from Rutgers, Seton Hall, and USF coaching staff. I'm sure those 3 Cuse fans were a big contributing factor to why Cuse won the game.

Um OK, yeah I can't quite see where I said they played a factor in outcome of the game.
When you get tickets from those staffs do you sit behind the bench wearing STJ gear?  If so its a slap in the face at them.
Its embarrassing when STJ athletic dept seats are given to opposing fans, plain and simple.  Do season ticket holders re-sell to opposing fans?  Sure they do, I would never say that doesn't happen.  But when a school employee does so its pathetic.

If you're angry at anyone be angry at 100's of thousands of St. John's alumni who don't come to games.

Maybe we should just hold guns to their heads so they come to the games.

What are these donations to the Red/White Club for if they're not for tx? Lot of needy children that far more important than St.John's basketball. Dave, in all seriousness, do you really think that people donate to the athletic department bec it's a good cause?

SJ runs ad campaigns claiming to be "New York's Team", and then they turn around and sell the good seats to brokers so they can then turn around and sell them to SU, Uconn, Nova and everyone else. When a season ticket holder does it, it's their right. It sucks, but it's their right.

Brian Colleary did more than steal from the Red/White Club. He helped to foster an environment where we were guests in our own house.

I donate to the athletic department without getting any benefit ticket-wise.  I've even earmarked money for lacrosse in the past and it wasn't to get tickets.  You'd be amazed how many people donate because it's a good cause.  I wish I could give more but my situation won't allow it right now.

MCN, seriously, a good cause?

Here are 3 causes that I donate to annually:

The Make a Wish Foundation
The Philadelphia Children's Hospital
St.John's Basketball

One of these examples is not like the others.

The notion that you can legally take an asset from your employer, sell it at a profit, and keep that profit yourself while paying the employer only the face amount of the ticket--assuming he did even that--is simply nuts. It is called theft. The profit belongs to the school, it is not a bonus. I will also bet the farm that he never paid income tax on the profits. The victims here are the school, from which he stole, and the fans, who were given worse seats. I have been a Red-White club member from inception, and a member of the Loughlin Club as well, and have had my season ticket locations moved several times , all to my detriment. I always wondered what was going on. Now it is apparent. It is also a reflection of the incompetent management of the University at every level, especially the Athletic Dept. This stuff should be picked up in yearly audits and tight internal controls. By the way, every few years, you will read about the arrest of MSG and Bway show employees for doing exactly what happened here. It is not a grey area. It is illegal.

As a season ticket holder and Red/White member, I am not happy at all. What he did was wrong. In an article yesterday, I read that they stripped him of some responsibilities over the last year or so. If that is true, I really wonder why it took so long.
It seems that this will be bigger than one guy. Here we go again.
I know we can get through this. I hope Lavin is healthy, comes back to coach next year and signs a great recruiting class. I also hope Harkless and Harrison do not go pro. We need to build on the excitement we had less than a year ago. We need some good news!
I graduated 27 years ago and have been very loyal to the university and our program even before I attended the SJU.
That said, I have to admit it sure gets frustrating. We always seem to take two steps forward and one step back.
We need Lavin back!

Who are you to tell people one cause is better than another?  All these causes are important at different levels.  Money that the athletic department makes goes towards scholarships for players and gives kids an opportunity to compete.   I don't disagree that sick children is more important, but it doesn't mean people don't give to SJU just for the sake of giving.  The Taffner's donated to SJU basketball and athletics in a big way.  I don't think it appropriate in any way to belittle their choice to donate to a cause like SJU athletics.
