Understood, but just because a guy gets the requisite minutes doesn't mean he'll average a near double-double.  I'm curious how many first year big guys at SJU ever averaged 10/8?

None in the last 12 years or so.  Harkless is at 8 and 16.  I looked at 2001 till now and not a single player (upperclassmen as well) averaged 8 rebounds or more in that span.  Evans, Glover and Hamilton were close ... but as upperclassmen.

10 and 5 actually. I think besides Berry, David Russell probably came close. Wayne McCoy maybe?

yeah ,you are right ( 11.5, 5 ) His soph year was huge. 20 and 10.  I think most of his boards were the result of his own misses though.

Both Lopez and Hamilton both had poor coaching(until senor year) and bad point guard play. It is a shame. I do agree Hamilton might have been the best player that was frustrating to watch play in SJU history.

Dont think I ever seen a more uncoordinated player have so much production in the low post as Z.

He was a very good free throw shooter which helped his production big time.  He would just flail those long arms and legs and get to the line.

No doubt. Z was also king of the triple pump.

Without a doubt.. also cant remember a big man who brought the ball lower than Z actually get his shot off.  He would get a board and then go back up from his hip. Amazing.

FWIW,  the numbers I see say Gift is averaging 9pts 5rebs and 31 minutes.   I didn't expect the world, but I did expect slightly more than that.    And his free throw % which once was a strong point, has dipped to 66%.  Not bad for a big man, but no longer a plus.

I'm not expecting a lot from Gift, but I would like to see him have more court awareness on Defense, like another poster mentioned.   He gets lost in the zone a lot and we've all seen the backdoor and alley oop results.
Secondly, improved hands.  And I don't know how or if that can be worked on.   But I never expected Gift to have a dangerous face-up game, or to be able to drive on big men in the BE.   But, our guards are getting him the ball when they draw the defense in, and if he could catch it cleanly he'd have easy lay-ins or would at least get fouled.   But when he bumbles with the ball for a moment, it gives the defense a chance to react.

Better rotations, and court awareness on D.    And, catch the ball cleanly.   That's what I'd like to see Gift work on in games this summer.

Starting at his waist hence getting more blocked shots then any 6'11" guy in the history of NCAA basketball.

I saw him do the same thing during a fight on Sewanhaka's front lawn. The dude thought he was going to take the Z man down ... and learned firsthand what it would be like to fight an epileptic squid and ended up on his ass. ;D

It's not just about size. He. Has no up and under. Ty Grant would have dropped 20 and 20 on GTown

20 and 20???  Ty averaged 8.6ppg and 7.7 rpg.  God's Gift is averaging 9.4ppg and 5.7rpg and he's massively disappointing?   He was a below the radar JC player.  How in any way have his numbers indicated a disappointment?  Not many JC players come into the Big East and average 10ppg their first season.  No, he's not Amare, but c'mon people.  The absurd expectations here are pretty funny.  If anything I'd like to see a few more boards per game from him but hes putting up solid numbers.  No reason to suspect Ty Grant would have dropped 20/20 vs Georgetown though.  That is fantasy.

Those aren't true numbers-- against the better teams he has , for the most part, stunk up the court.  He had some good games early against the mid majors.  To say he hasn't been disappointing is just not true.  When he puts the ball on the floor it's a turnover,  he doesnt have soft hands,  I was expecting more
.

How much more were you expecting 15ppg 12rpg?  He's overmatched at times because we have nobody else in the post to help him.  He's actually performing quite well for a first year JC big man.

Did he disappoint you last night?  Couldn't catch, pass, rebound, or shoot the ball
