3'Angelo Harrison about to get some records
« on: February 14, 2012, 05:32:57 PM »
Maybe it's the Mets fan in me, but my favorite thing this season has been to watch 3'Angelo fight his way to the single-season record for three-pointers made.

Only a few weeks ago, 3'Angelo getting that record looked unlikely.  Then he went on a  barrage.  Now he sits at 61 treys made on the season.  Somehow he is shooting 38.1% from deep--which is higher than I pegged him for as a frosh.  We have seven guaranteed games left for Harrison to best the mark of 72 made three-pointers.  As it stands we'd either player Rutger or Nova in the first round, so another game or so is not too unlikely.

Also, 3'Angelo is already higher than Mullin's freshman average of 16.6 and is just 77 points away from besting Mullin's freshman total point mark.  Is Mullin our all-time freshman leader n points?

Mullin and Lopez both scored exactly the same amount of points freshman year 498.

I hope he gets it, because it's good press, but these stats are silly. Mullin would have averaged 30 ppg if there was a 3 point line. Lopez, not so much.

Needs 12 threes in 7 games?  I would bet $$ that he breaks the record.

An added bonus is that this will hopefully remove the name Avery Patterson from the record books and hopefully remove him from any further discussion about Johnny greats.

All but Carmine have forgotten him already.  I vaguely remember he had a flamboyant headband toss and that's about it.

A player hits 72 3's in his first season - a record now being challanged by a player many observers feel could break Springfield resident/Dream teamer/National collegiate POY/5 time Nba allstar Chris Mullin's all-time Johnny scoring record - and all you can remember...er vaguely remember is that he tossed a headband flamboyantly?

You'ld make a great detective.

Is Mullin our all-time freshman leader n points?

No. Erick Barkley scored 500 points as freshman.

Barkley was a frosh and for my $ the 2nd best Frosh we have had during my time as a fan.

Moose, I don't know why you called me out in regards to Patterson. I think all SJU fans outside of Carmine are united in Patterson's awfulness

Oh I get it becuase I correctly noted Harrison shoots a set shot. He does! I am still a fan. Considering whose record he would break however, it is not exactly someone taking down Joe D's hitting streak.

Set Shot????---maybe you haven't seen Harrison run off multiple screens on the baseline to catch and shoot ala Ray Allen the past 4-5 games.

Last 8 games D'angelo is shooting 50% from 3.  32-63 since Villanova.  I'm done judging his shot.  The kid can shoot.   Everyone who said he would round into form and would be shooting much better by the end of the year was right.   If he continues to improve next season we'll have one of the best offensive weapons in the conference.

And that stat includes all the desperation shots when the clock is winding down.

Absolutely.  Next year with a more efficient offense, a true pg, a few minutes of rest, etc... Harrison's shot selection will improve and his % will go even higher.
