ESPN apparently doesn't know who Jamal Branch is ...  (from ESPN Insider story entitled "SJU searching for a point guard")

"SJU's interest in the 6-foot-2 guard is significant, since the Johnnies will need perimeter help next season. In 2012, SJU has relied on D'Angelo Harrison and Phil Greene (as well as Moe Harkless at times) to initiate the offense but it is clear the squad needs to bolster their depth."

"How could SJU use Bloodman? If the guard did commit to the Big East school, Lavin and company could shift Harrison off the ball, and slide Bloodman into the point spot"

Other than that they just quote the Zags article.    Think Bloodman is getting more hype than is probably deserved.  I think the staff is focused on bigger fish.

They also have him rated as a 40/100.

The 40 means they don't have any footage on him.

He was ranked no lower than 65 in the RSCI last year.  I find that hard to believe they have no video.  I think its just them not caring enough to give Branch a grade since he was a transfer.

I was talking about Branch, not Bloodman.

And Branch was a 95 last year for them.

We have a PG in Branch.  You want to bring in 2 in one class?

I see SH looking at point guards aggressively. Know they need one badly, but wonder if this also indicates their lack of confidence in getting the 2013 commit from Baltimore. Moose has often been skeptical about that situation.

Interesting since not only are they actively recruiting guys like Bloodman and Daiquan Walker but they have a CBA player currently enrolled who plays the point.  Carr just transferred high schools.  His academics I am told need serious work.

I thought getting one to start out being that branch isn't eligible till December wouldn't hurt. But  either way dosent make a difference to me . I got the feeling that this upcoming week is gonna be epic for us  8)

As noted before, quite confident about a part of the puzzle being solidified next week. Shoot me if wrong!

Joining at the same time, but not same class - one a soph, one a frosh.

FYI, Steve's first recruiting class ever had both Baron Davis and Earl Watson, and transfer Moose Bailey (starter at Penn State) - all THREE were PGs...

BTW - probably wouldn't PLAY well on the court, but how cool SOUNDING would a backcourt of Trivante Bloodman and Tavon Sledge be?  :)

CR- You know what I'm getting it.  You don't have to cite every single time Lavin defied the odds.  Bringing in another PG would piss the hell outta Branch who came here to fill a need plus smack Greene in the face for busting his ass handling the duties admirably this year and showing he can spell Branch.  We will see another PG, but not in '12.

Sorry Moose, didn't mean to step on your toes.   Just that Lavin took a LOT of grief at UCLA in the later years for supposedly doing exactly that for Ced Bozeman - promising not to bring in another PG - and it really burned him his last two years, as Ced couldn't stay healthy (3 surgeries in 2 years), which led to Ryan Walcott and Brian Morrison and even Rico Hines having to handle PG duties - and led to a losing season and firing in 2003.

I just don't believe that if Lavs HAS a chance to sign a PG he thinks is good enuf to play for him, that he'll pass.  He'll worry about stroking ruffled feathers later....
