Someone call up Harrell.  Or will people complain he's only 6'7?

Stunner, really is.  Not just the news but the timing, why now?  I know the 4 straight years of being an NCAA bubble team hurts especially when followed up by a losing season but by all accounts he was well liked and respected in Blacksburg, his AD per this Washington Post article said earlier in the year when there was talk he could be in trouble that they were not even giving ANY thought to replacing Seth.  But apparently his staff has been bailing on him.  Perhaps that became the impetus for this move:

He'll be back in the game in a year after broadcasting a year.

Firing someone at a press conference underlies there is a story here. One columnist infers Seth's coaches bailed on him and gave negative feedback at exit interviews. I am sure story will come out.  Cr may have some insight, since he lives in Blacksburg.

Moose's point earlier!

“@TheRecruitScoop: With the termination of coach Seth Greenberg, the situation of Hokies signee Montrezl Harrell will be very interesting. He is a 2012 SF.”

More of a need for bigs-PF C than another SF unless kid is a lights out talent. IMHO

Agreed.  Would have been interesting to see if this happened earlier and a job like SMU was still open, would they have come calling?

Kinda low class but what would you expect from a Hoakie.

Interesting thought of VA Tech always being a bridesmaid as to entry to NCAA Tourney.  Would it have been different if they had stayed in the BIG East with our numbers in the Tourney much higher than ACC.  And they wanted a "better" football league but which of the 2 conferences had a better BCS record since the move.  Glad to see the curse of leaving the Big East has made them less relevant.  Just ask BC about the move and Miami football is a shell of itself.

Can't wait for the curse to hit Syr"accuse" and the Pits

You know the only school that bolted in the past that I miss was BC.  We had some good games with them over the years.  They were like family.  But alas, $$$ talks.  There was no real history with Miami, VT, or WV.  They were just opponents.  Syracuse will be missed both for the competition and to rag on Coach B.

I had lunch with an ASU big on Friday and asked him about the status of Coach S. out here.  He is safe for the moment, as the emphasis with the AD is on refitting Sun Devils stadium, making sure the new FB HC gets off to a good start, and the Baseball program moving forward.  Lucky for Coach S.  that is is #4 on the AD's priority list.

MB, please do not read past this point.  When I asked if there is a short list of potential replacements I was told yes, as that is SOP.  While not asking who was on this list, I did volunteer the name a certain relatively young coach from a school just north of NYC.  He wrote Coach C.'s name down on a napkin and put it in his pocket.  You never know!

Clearly something was up in the Greenberg firing.  I mean Greenberg was on campus yesterday with a recruit when he got the news.  He even texted a news organization when rumors started that the press conference being set up was for his termination that he was "still employed" thus it must be for something else.  I mean either he was playing dumb or he clearly had NO CLUE he was about to get fired.

And again the AD stated that it was NOT wins and losses or NCAA appearances that caused this.  And he stated that the assistant coach who left for Clemson told him that the reason had "nothing to do with money."  I think he was implying something when he divulged this yesterday.

Would be ballsy and smart of ASU but no chance of Cluess leaving for that far away.
