OK let's speculate on scholarships
« on: March 20, 2012, 08:37:45 PM »
Just for fun.  Coach Lavin said numerous times that he wanted to sign 5 recruits.  That was when Harkless was presumed by most to be returning and of course the addition of Branch.  So that would have been 12 total WITH Harkless.  Without him does that mean he wants to sign 6 kids now?  Mind you that would still leave them short of the max of 13.

So you have Felix and JaKarr already in the fold.  Let's speculate and add Marco and Orlando.  That is 4.  Let's add the mystery guy, again speculating, Chandler.  That is 5 recruits plus 5 returning players and Branch makes a total of 11 assuming all qualify.  Still have 2 to play with.

Does this mean we continue to pursue Morris and or Hall if he qualifies?

I'd say Lavin uses six total scholarships...that is including Branch.  He leaves one for 2013 or for a transfer.

The question really becomes will x with an extra year of experience/conditioning be better than y will be as a freshman.  I think Lav wants to put this team in position to a have a chance to win it all in 2013.

I could see him still going after Hall but I think that's it. Maybe Hall ends up prepping a year.

I think other than Hall he stashes the ship to have an extra for 13 especially if its true like someone mentioned that McCullough is going to be 13 instead of 14

I think Lavin knew Moe was gone and that was figured into his statements about bringing in 5.. Just speculating.

Branch, Felix, Chandler, Sanchez, Marco,  I would gladly take Morris though also.

But Moose, can't the gravy kill us for that 2013 class that makes you "weak in the knees"?

Feeling good about our Chandler chances Moose? I am not crazy about this kid, but  will trust staff.

Haven't seen either play but from looking at the videos I'd take Morris over Marco. Looks like he can get to the hoop as well as hit the outside shot while Marco looks more like a spot up shooter.

Mind you even if he signs 6 and Branch that still leaves us 1 short.  Combined with Achiuwa coming off the books in 2013 that means at least 2 schollies for 2013.  And you may have a transfer which could create another.

If they stick to the 5 that leaves minimum of 3 scholarships (13-11 plus GG graduating).

or Jakarr jumps to the NBA?  Is that out of the realm?

It is speculation right, so no.  But again my point is I would pursue Morris especially.  That would still leave you a minimum of 2 for 2013.

If by chance Hall wants in but had to prep and if McCullough ends up being 13 instead of 14

We potentially could have a NYC class of 13 Hall,Lawrence,McCullough

Now if I could only win mega millions tonight my life would be complete

I agree with Moose that Chandler and Sanchez are the keys.  Chandler more so IMO.  (If he's going to be eligible)

I think Lav signs 3 more including those 2.   That leaves us with 3 openings, God's Gift comes off the books next year, meaning end of next year we'll have 4 spots if everyone else stands pat.

I think Lav signs 2 in '13 and 2 in '14 assuming McCulloch stays back in his class.

I don't see Jakarr leaving after one year, but then again I wouldn't have said Moe could either.

The one place I will disagree on, is I think 2014 is the year we blow up.   In my eyes D'angelo, Dom,  Amir, and Branch are all here as seniors.
I think Jakarr will still be here as a Junior (and then leave), and Chandler, and we'll hopefully have added some combination of McCulloch, Jermaine L, the pg from Philly, and maybe a somebody like that shooter Domingo.

I'm just guessing at the future pieces.   But whatever the combination of future recruits is, I think 2014 is when we have our best shot at a long tourny run.

Lot of wishful thinking in there.  But that's my best guess at this point.    All starts with Sanchez and Chandler though.   We can't go through another season with such little size and depth in the front court.

Not with Karr being possible quick exit.  Remember he's already a year older because of the prep year, and Gift coming off the books.

In addition, any big guys like McCullough or Lawrence should not have anything to worry about as Gift will be gone, Sanchez a senior and Jakarr the only other guy there.

I don't think your math is correct.  If they sign 5 and with GG graduating that leaves 3 scholarships not 4.  6+5=11.  13-11=2.  2+GG leaving=3.

I'm sorry to see Morris fading -- I was really gung ho to have him here.

It looks like we are picking up steam with Sanchez, which is good.

I think we're looking at Felix, Sampson, Sanchez, Chandler, Branch, either Morris or Marco, and a big that will come out of nowhere. Hall will prep, and his choice of school will make it obvious that we are the ones who stashed him there.

My hope is that Coach gets us Sanchez and Chandler, and then takes the first out of Morris and Marco. I want three available for '13 in hopes for a monster year. McCullough, lawrence, and maybe D'angelos stud replacement shooting guard who comes out of no where
*wipes ketchup from his eyes* - I guess Heinz sight isn’t 20/20.

I got Sanchez, Morris, Chandler on the wish list. So many things will change by 2013 I dont think we should worry about having no room I just want to build a good team for this year
