Moose you've seen Sanchez and Obe play, where did they fit in if signed? Make yourself useful, Or do you need a hug from Baldi?

Sanchez is 3/4 and Obe is 5.  Pretty sure you knew that.
Sanchez could start or could be 6th man off bench.  All depends on matchup.  Him and Jakarr when ideal would be our 3 and 4 I think.

Definitely do not want a hug from you :)

I have Branch,,Dlo,Amir/Dom,Sampson. The magic question is the Center position. If we get CO or Chandler, I have them starting over Gift.

This is a pretty pointless thread until we know our full team for next year.

Phil and Dom would be great energy guys off the bench. Gift will look a lot better playing closer to 10/15 minutes a game.
Pg branch
Sg Harrison
Sf Garret
Pf Samson
C hopefully coming soon
It really sucked when stith quit. Happy he is gone and another scholarship opened.

OK I'll play along but your getting my dream line-up
C Chandler
PF Jakarr
SF Sanchez (or Amir with Sanchez and Dom off bench)
SG D'Lo
PG Branch (when eligible until then Phil and then Phil becomes first g off the bench).

Yea this is pointless till we know what we have.. I know.    But I'll play along too.
What I'd like to see, is:

pg- Branch
sg- D. Harrison
sf-  A. Garret
pf-  J. Sampson
c-   M. Chandler

And a regular bench/ 2nd unit of:
P. Greene
D. Pointer
G. Gift
O. Sanchez

I do think Dom Jakarr and Amir find there way on to the court at the same time pretty frequently though.
I don't see Felix getting a lot of burn this year, but maybe he surprises.   And I'm hoping there's another big man or shooter out there, but I'm not confident in that.  We'll see about Bourgault.

Also, as we've seen with Polee and some other guys, "starting" on a Lavin team is sometimes just a title.

In the fall/winter I think we'll see that the guys who score, are going to see their playing time go up, plain and simple.   Points are going to be at a premium, especially without Moe.   D'angelo is a lock for 28+ minutes, but after that the staff is going to have to give minutes to guys who put the ball in the net.

So while I don't think Phil or Dom are starters in our minds now....  who knows what they look like in the fall.  If their jumpers are falling, they'll get the pt.

I don't see the point of starting lineups until the whole class is in place.

Was waiting for this. What else ya wanna talk about? Iona? UCLA? Gathers getting paid?

Thats the problem.  You stir the pot just to talk to someone.  If there isn't anything to talk about you don't have to make news.

Plenty of other college ball talk you can find as opposed to this.

I personally enjoy these threads. Makes me excited for the upcoming season. It beats talking about larry brown and SMU
Or KA and Rico. Do we still have a chance with those guys? How is it those threads don't go away?

Just based on our current roster/committs....I think Gift comes off the bench regardless of who we sign.

I think we go with:

1) Greene
2) Harrison
3) Garrett
4) Pointer
5) Sampson

When Branch is eligible I think one of two things happens.  Greene goes to the bench or Pointer goes to the bench and Greene slide to the 3.

I'd have to agree with this right here.  Lav has shown that he would rather play small and skilled lineups over big lineups.  Two things I feel very confident about:  Harrison and Garrett are starting.  I think Branch takes over in January, but Greene will be a big-time contributor.

Moose is right, though, kind of silly doing this now before we get a full roster.  If we have a legit big man, things would obviously change.

I know its semantics but there's no way in that lineup that dom is the 4 and garrett is the 3. They would flip flop. Garrett seems to relish battling down low, I love that about him.

Good point.  Garrett was clearly the better banger down low.  I have been thinking of Garrett a SF before this thread started, because I assume we will land a capable center and will have Sampson starting at the four.  I expect Garrett to absolutely explode this coming season.  I was seriously impressed with his play and how he improved as the season progressed.  He is a SMART, tenacious player.

As a secondary option he is going to be next to impossible to stop if his shot begins to land like I expect it will next season.  I love when he takes the ball to the basket.

You can find the signing periods in the recruit listing in the recruiting section.

I agree this thread is about a week premature (hopefully), but it beats talking about KA, Ricardo, and a whole bunch of guys not coming to St. John's. Not to mention any thing to do with Iona (Sorry, MB!)

Once we land a few more players, it will be interesting to discuss say how Chris, Michael, and Orlando (wishing one or more of these possible recruits come our way), may fit into the starting lineup.  No way Felix or Max (if he is the sharp shooter Coach is looking for) cracks the starting five.

Starting fives really do not interest me as much as how the players will blend as a team.  With what we have now, I see Sampson replacing Moe, more or less, and Branch improving the PG position.  Felix will provide much needed bench support.  The rest of our guys should improve from last season.

We still have the critical issue of needing some height and talent for the #4 and #5 positions.  GG seems more like a support player.

If we do get some height, I can see our starting five in January being very different than the starting five at the beginning of the season.

Any discussion beats what we would normally be discussing 3, 2, even 1 year ago. It's great to be a Johnny fan. Been a long time since I was able to say that. And the fun hasn't even begun yet.

That's a great question. We need size, but more specifically, we need rebounders and interior defenders. I have read that he can rebound. Garrett showed some potential on the glass. Pointer needs a lot of work on the glass.

He is more refined offensively I think.  However the other two have greater potential.
