Glove was a straight up monster at Rice. Strongest playa I ever seen.

Shoulda been a McD AA, but they knew he'd prop 48 so them DeMatha snobs passed.

Has there been NYC player since Glove that matched his game?

Anthony Glover was quite highly rated, although ratings services were far different back then.[/b]

The most respected voice on a recruits in 1998 was the same one that is the most respected today - Tom Konchalski -

FWIW the raters that put Glover at 23 overall and where they individually put him:

Bob Gibbons, 25
Clark Francis, 13
Brick Oettinger, 25
Van Coleman, 41

Do those dinosaurs still exist?  Or were they booted from the industry by the Telep's, Bossi's and Daniels' of the world.

RSCI still uses Van Coleman's rankings (Hot100hoops.com).  He and Gibbons had Hoopmasters for years but that ended last year.  Coleman launched Hot 100 and Gibbons has relaunched All Star Sports it would appear.  Francis continues to publish on Hoopscoop.com as awful as that is.  Brick seems to be affiliated with ACC Sports Journal and is higher on the masthead at Prepstars than Bossi.

What is the last time any of them were quoted on here?  I mean even Hoops Weiss tweets (as bad as he is at it).  These guys should get with the times.

Hoops Weiss is a journalist.  These guys fancy themselves as "experts" who came up in a time when you gave very little away free.  All their models were and still seem to be based upon subscription models and I don't think consumers are their primary target anymore.  For example, even though Coleman sells a $70 per year general subscription he sells a 20x in depth newsletter or something like that to coaches for $495 per year.  That's where the money is.  FWIW Francis probably just gets by on renewal credit card payments from guys who long forgot Hoopscoop even exists.  ; )

Here's an interesting story from a couple years back that name checks a lot of these guys and how they run/ran their businesses as it relates to HS/AAU hoops in general.

And I would add that most athletic departments would order that $495 package without blinking an eye.

Tom Konchalski, who really knows his stuff, relies on hand written notes & does not use a computer. Some folks just resist technology. Amazing!

Tom is still relevant.  Maybe its because I'm in NY but you still hear and see his name.  As for the 3-4 stooges mentioned above.......

I will definitely read that article later tonight.  I thought there were rules vs. programs paying for access to that type of stuff.  I just don't know what kind of subscription base they still have even if it was every single college thats 300 programs.  I'm sure the sell thru isn't 100%.  I mean Gibbons of all people should work for ESPN as Recruiting Emeritus or something at least he has cred.  The others, ehhhh not so much.  Especially Clark in the dark.

I know what you mean but there's no rule against a $500/year magazine subscription.

I had a talk with a athletics dept employee and there were issues with coaches and athletics staff subscribing to Rivals and Scout.  There was talk of that a year or so ago.

Met Clark a few times, wacky guy right out of a Steven King novel. Ron N. of Cardoza wrote for him and Clark drove him crazy.(a short ride at that)

What is a "DeMatha snob".? Is this yet another Choz slang term that no one else understands..?

Anthony Glover represented everything that was right about the Prop 48 Rule. You don't get the grades in high school you can still go to sdchool but can't play as a Freshman and then if you do the work and get your act together, you get your year of eligibility back.

Believe he meant Morgan Wooten, then coach of  DeMatha. He was a key selector.

Really?   I was under the impression athletic departments regularly pay for scouting services.   I think you hear about it more in football, but I'm sure it would apply to other sports as well.

I'll try to find an example of what I'm talking about.

Coach Wootten is a legend, a gentlemen, an incredible Father and a pioneer in the world of basketball.  Every Coach is America should kiss his ass given the opportunity.

To take any pot shot at him is just being ignorant
