Yeah she joined her old coach from playing days at his new gig.  That was kind of expected though.

I'm sure it was which gives pause to think about how we pay our coaches. While we're at it, is this a gender thing or a sport thing. While men's BB drives our athletic program, shouldn't we pay our successful coaches on par with other schools for that sport and similar level of success.

For example, is Masur paid appropriately? If so then why not KBA. If not then why not. Hate to see a 10 year coach who built this program from scratch, and who is a native of the area, on the brink of a long run of success, be "forced" to leave because of dollars.

So as I say, is it a gender thing or a sport thing. How about Blankenmeyer ?

 I just think SJU couldn't pay Barnes what Michigan could.    And I don't have any numbers in front of me to back this up (I guess I could try to find it) but I would suspect there's a bigger drop off in coachs's salaries from the top programs to the smaller D-1 programs.   For example I bet there's a huge gap between Auriema and the next tier of women's coaches.   

Men's coaches certainly get paid a ton, but I don't think the drop off is as great from say Calhoun or Roy Williams to Lavin or Jay Wright.    But if you look at women's sports I suspect the very top athletic programs, Michigan, Texas, Stanford, UNC etc probably pay a ton more than mid-BCS level teams.

Just a hunch.

Is the juice worth the squeeze though.  For as good as we were these past few years if the program is not delivering money than its tough to inject more money when there is no evidence of ROI.  Just playing devils advocate.  STJ will always be a mens basketball school.  With soccer and baseball following.

Hear you Moose. Just hate to think that we will "Normanize" our woman's program by trying to get blood from a stone, ala Norm.

Sucks that we lost her, but I don't see the school investing millions in the women's coach.

Billionaire fans of women's programs are hard to come by. We're lucky as hell that we had one for the men's program.

Tough loss.  But it was just a matter of time.  I say that because other schools have been trying to lure Kim for several years now, and SJU has been very good about doing what was necessary to keep her.  But Michigan was just too good of an opportunity for her.

It will be interesting to see if Joe T hangs on for the head coaching job.  The guy can recruit and coach.  If he isn't hired, I wouldn't be shocked to see him depart for Michigan himself to stay on staff with Kim.  I can imagine that there is a lot of buzz out there right now about the SJU women's job, as the program has a strong foundation, with the support of the administration, growing fan support, great returning players, some good recruits coming in and other good ones on the radar, and of course the NYC thing.  There could be some stars out there who will be interested.

Womens basketball doesnt make money, so unless ylur other sports are bringingin so mch that they have tons to spare (the football schools), paying a womens bball coach kinda pointless. 

Sad to see her go, but Mens bball is the only team that can afford an uber expensive coach here.
