If your one of the top recruits in the nation in a given year, why wouldn't you go play in a conference where you play high major talent all the time, gain greater exposure, and have your chance to prove your game night-in, night-out, against guys who will actually end up playing in the NBA?  Sledge makes some sense, given that he went to a team in a big conference and didn't get PT as a freshman (and is from the area), but Turner was ranked as one of the top guards overall in his class.

And why is playing no D a selling point to someone who ultimately wants to play in the NBA, where teams are valuing defense more and more through advanced metrics analysis, etc.

I do not fully know the BB abilities of the guys still open to us like many of you do.  However,  from just reading the posts over the past few weeks, and please foregive my academic leaning, I would grade (in terms of BB skills) our potential recruits this way:
*  Turner A+
*  Chandler A+
*  Wood (AKA Woods by some posters) A
*  Nolan B+
*  Raffington B

I don't see it.  I think its Lavin doing a solid for him/USF (his dad's alma mater).  Its Chandler, Nolan, Rhoomes, and either going another late flier direction or stashing the ship before Raffington I truly think.

Visited Iona today and met the mayor of New Rochelle, dined at Finbaar's Pub on North Avenue and drove up and down the Major Deegan Expressway. Rumored to be touring Baldi's apartment tomorrow. IMO, we won't get this kid. Grasso strikes again!
