Have to think it would have, MJ.  Big East would have had a stranglehold on the DC market, and Maryland (and Missouri for that matter) would have been pretty big time football programs in the Big East.  Too bad Fordham didn't give me the offer to be Big East commish 5 years ago when I could have done some damage!  ;-)

regarding your UCLA beef with PMG and Marillac, there's an old saying you may have heard of:

A broken clock is right twice a day.

I'm not sure why he's citing to that disagreement to suport the issue of not backing up his posts with facts.  I can't speak for PMG, but I was just speculating that Howland would get fired based on his team's poor performance and my perception of the high standards of the UCLA fanbase.  Fordham's was response was equally speculative unless he's trying to have us believe he's a UCLA insider.

He's a twit  and not worth responding to.

I had been told by a few people that the article was going to be much worse then it actually was and I was basing my guess  that he was getting fired off that. I was obviously wrong and would like to thank Fordham for pointing it out.

Side note - don't be surprised if you see some "issues" arise a UCLA in the near future.

“@PeteThamelNYT: RT @murphsturph: Boise State official just told me the school has asked the Big East for help in placing its non-football programs.”

Interesting, does nothing for BBall, but BE needs BS for football for sure.

Boise State in a tough spot because they have a really good football program and not so good at other sports. They also play in a terrible region. Would the Horizon league be out of the question?

I don't know if it was discussed in another thread, but on SNY Sportsnite last night, they said that Louisville announced it was leaving the Big East.  I wasn't half asleep, was I?

In the ESPN article, it said that at the last meeting, Louisville made it known that if they get an invite they will take it. I don't think anyone invited them yet.

For what ? Wouldn't think they'd announce a defection without also announcing a new place to land.

I'm banking you were half asleep. Although it wouldn't surprise me if they did leave.

The BE might be able to stay together if the members were loyal. Many are like a bunch of rats on a sinking ship. Some of these FB schools are looking to jump ship if given an invite from a major conference. This new commish has his work cut out for him. You have to think that ultimately the ACC and Big 12 are going to look to expand. I dont like the expantion of the conferences. But mega conferences seem the way of the future.

A few people have told me that if Louisville leaves the Big East they will lose their basketball coach too.

I wouldn't be surprised. Pitino didn't sound very happy when they were trying to bolt before.

Boise st. is a great FB program. Their inclusion will help pacify FB schools.

I never said Boise state will ultimately play in the BE. I meant if they do ,it will help stabilize FB. But there is no doubt the conference is facing many obstacles.

Granted this is from a blog, but this is the gist of what I heard.

http://blogs.orlandosentinel.com/sports_college/2012/05/boise-state-louisville-reportedly-mulling-big-east-exit-strategies.html

Louisville was among the current Big East members hoping to join the Big 12 or ACC. ESPN.com reports school officials made those rumors official, opting to inform the Big East presidents of its long-term goals. It’s a much different approach than other schools took, with Syracuse and Pittsburgh reportedly startling all members when word spread they were joining the ACC.

It all revolves around the TV deal.
