This opinion piece has unnamed sources projecting a lousy deal while the one named source projects a good deal.

Lets wait till a deal is announced before we put a nail in the BE coffin.

You make a fair point, but BE is in a terrible bargaining position. Even if you cut the opinions in half, it bodes poorly IMO.

Think the BE is in better bargaining position 'cause NBC is gonna bring out the $$$$$.

I think the networks see other issues and big east having both football and bball is still marketable.  ACC could have a big problem with G-tech, FSU, Miami and Clemson looking to bolt.  I wouldn't be surprised to see all of them split between Big 12, SEC etc.  ACC would lose their big dogs football-wise and not be an iota better and probably worse than the Big East.  Would teams like Uconn or Rutgers really want to bolt to the ACC if they lost those other teams?  Not so sure...

Please don't think NBS Sports had unlimited funds to match the ESPN original offer. We will see!

The  new BE does have excellent TV markets. RE. RU ,UCONN, and UL, Unfortunately, I think they would bolt as soon as the opportunity presents itself. For some reason the ACC has always been able to attract BE teams. Much of the conference is made of BE teams SU, Pitt, VT, Miami, BC.  and Ive always hated the conference redistributions. The ACC is a great conference{not saying the BE isnt} and FSU and Clemson bolting doesnt make much sense to me. The ACC offers a perfect geographical region for them and they have their long standing rivalries. But Syracuse leaving the BE also didnt make sence to me. Its not about logic its about money.

100% UCONN, Rutgers, and Louisville will leave for either the ACC or Big 12 if offered the opportunity.    The money won't be close.   Heard recently that the execs in Tampa told the BE they can expect 130 mil, which is the same they turned down last year.  That's $3-4 mil per team.   And the ACC contract gives teams somewhere around $11 mil.

Even without Florida State or Clemson; UCONN and Rutgers will jump through hoops to join that league.

The ADs in the BE are saying all the right things at the moment, but the writing is on the wall.   The basketball schools will find a soft landing, but the Big East will never be the same.   And that's a shame.

Does NBC have any conferences yet?  Do they want to get into the lucrative college sports markets?

If ESPN screws the BE with their offer the BE will probably get a good deal from NBC.  I think the money will be there.  It will be a question of moving away from the exposure that ESPN provides.  Fans of hockey, cycling and horseracing found NBC channels.  Perhaps NBC comes off a successful summer olympics and make a splash with a BE contract.  The league needs a strong leader to keep people (e.g., see BC alumnus running the state of Connecticut) to get their hands out of the conference.  There are plenty of people with clout who want to see this league succeed and prosper.  They quickly need to find a strong conference leader.

NBC already covers all notre same home games so they do have interest in the college football market.  Airing one ND game and a one big east game on weeks when nd is home and 2 big east games when nd is away would be a good look for them, I think.

Believe we are talking about the NBC college sports network that took over Versus not the major NBC network so they could cover as many games as they want.

The ACC is going to lose FSU, Clemson, and eventually Va Tech.  What will their contract look like then?

That will cause them to poach more BE football schools.

It won't be so attractive for big east schools to jump to the ACC when they lose their football trump-cards.

Point taken. But if their TV contract is appreciatively better than BE that could be a factor. Also football slightly better?

I thought Accuse AD comments about "extraordinary competitive opportunities" in the ACC was telling.  Since they currently can't compete with BE football, he must be refering to those football powerhouses in the ACC such as Duke and Wake.  I guess he figures they can finally win a conference game.  They will be the doormat of the ACC football and they deserve it.  will also be doormat in soccer and baseball--oops they don't have baseball.  Only sports they will be competitive in are Bball and lacrosse, but in lacrosse they will lose the Northeast dominance as seen in the loss to Duke in the NCAA's

ACC lacrosse is sooo strong that they very well could finish either at top or bottom of the conference any year.
