No idea how credible this guy is.

“@Wordmandc: #JayBilas in strong consideration to become the new boss of the #BigEast. The BE wants a commish in place as they start their new TV talks.”

Same chance as us rehiring Norm.

Abbott would be a great hire IMO.

Based on the write-up posted by Moose, he seems to have solid credentials...as a sports media company executive.  Not sure how good he'll be at keeping the BE from sliding off the cliff into irrelevancy.  Hope he's up for it.

Seems this is a done deal.    Good pick though.
Don't know if he can rescue the football side, but the downfall of the big east was probably premature talk.

Either way, he should have no problem promoting a basketball league with plenty of talent and resources still left.

I actually work at the same company with Mike and have gotten to know him a little bit. Have to say I was pretty surprised by this but he he is sharp as a tack and a heck of a nice guy. He's done an amazing job protecting and securing long term contracts to CBS's most coveted properties. I have a feeling he will do a great job, congratulations Mike!

Now lets hope for a better deal than the ACC.  Best way to get back at Pitt and Syracuse would be to pull off a top deal.

I see no possible scenario for that to happen, unless the Vatican calls the pres of ND and asks them to play football in the Big East.

Thanks for the incite.  What is being written about him is very positive. Rutgers AD is wild about him and Bevalaqua (spelling?).  I have believed all along that the key to this is having the right people in place to make things happen.  (Mike Repole and what he has done for SJ ball.)  Next up is negotiation with ESPN for 60 days until October 30th.  If nothing is done, the BE is a free agent any that could be interesting when one considers Comcast/NBC.  They have started up a sports network as seen with the Olympics and want to compete with ABC/ESPN.  They need programming!  They BE as reconstructed would give the "national" not regional programming.  Look at the markets that the BE is in; they have a lot of "cable boxes" in those areas.

While football is the "key", the conference also offers significant other hours of coable entertainment.  The basketball, both men's and women's, can compete with any other conference.  The Men's soccer and lacrosse offer many hours during the fall and the baseball works in the spring.

Football possibilities--as long as NBC loves ND, they don't need ND to join the BE FB conference; rather, they could get ND to play other conference schools on the "road" each year and show those as the BE game of the week.

In one of the articles regarding our new commissioner, they mentioned the addition of a 14th FB school to balance the conference.  I would love to see a raid on the ACC.  My choice, don't throw bricks, would be BC.  They never should have left; they have been nothing since they went into the tobacco farmer conference.  Their alums that I know regret the day the decision was made.  It would take backdoor pressure from some big BC donor alums but it could be done by their friends/business cohorts from the BE schools.

Remember, the thing is to think BIG, not small as in the past.  Go as a league with a vengence.

redslope,

Nothing would be sweeter than to pull back BC.  It would be hilarious to see that happen.

Once the new leaders of the conference pull off a TV deal, those who worked behind the backs of the BE to wreck the league will be defeated.  There are good times ahead for the conference.  The rumored deal is a substantial starting point.  Hopefully, the league moves to NY and takes off to a new level in the media capitol while Cuse heads to the Carolinas like an old retiree.

It is time for the Big East to separate from ESPN and leave them with their alliance with the ACC conference.  Bring in a new era with a successful relationship with NBC Sports and bash the ACC on the football fields and basketball courts in the years ahead.

As the hoops season wound down everyone listened to and was influenced by ESPN trying to kill this league.  It looks like the BE will close out the year strong.

The ACC got a BC with football and basketball teams that were often in the top 25, what we would get back is
a BC thar is on a par with mid-major programs.  I would rather they stay in the ACC and continue to block
UCONN from getting an invite.
