I would put us ahead of Marquette and possibly Villanova. When St. John's is good, they get way more attention than either of those teams.

+1 but we have no one to blame but ourselves.

I think we're a better job than Marquette or 'Nova as well.
Problem is you're only as good as your budget, and recruits only know what you've done lately.

But, when you give an SJU coach a real budget for assistants ... then it becomes a pretty attractive place to be.   Like it is now.
No assistants though and we easily fall into the pack with Seton Hall Rutgers and Providence, even despite our history.

Marquette yes. At this time Nova is a better job. Just my opinion.

One thing I really like about Nova is they have a train stop right outside the school. Make it so easy to get into Philly.

Of I was applying for a job the answer to the "would you relocate" would be no.
The best job in the BE is SJ, because you're in NY.

I couldn't even imagine even visiting a disgusting city like Louisville or Cincinnati.
There is absolutely no reason to go there for a weekend, much less years.

New York is over rated in this day and age. People are leaving in droves. Many reasons for the exodus, but point is, New York isn't the place everyone is clamoring to get to anymore.

One thing the article said and is true of NY sports in general. If you win there, there is no better place, having strong fan support.. I think Lavin took that into consideration. Each year SJU should get better and better. I believe in a few years SJU will be in the upper echelon in the BE in coaching jobs and W-L percentage. In the 80s the people of NYC rolled out the red carpet for Carneseca and he was a national college BB name and subsequent hall of famer. That said , we have had a miserable 10 years, not counting 2010-2011. But, things change.

Sure, but folks who are making $1mill per year and more aren't leaving the way those who can't afford to make ends meet are.

Census is never accurate. Real number is between 8.5 - 8.8.
