Extended Spring Training for now.  He needs to build up that arm.  Hasn't thrown many pitches in a long time.

I think extended spring training closed down last week. At least it did in the Florida State League.

Reds are in AZ though.
And I got that from a Reds board.

He's at extended spring training, not rookie ball.

Coach, red is definitely his color. Let's hope it's Johnny red for a few more years.

Let's not get crazy over the inch guys! Lol If true, I like the additional weight. Kid is going to be a beast this year IMO!

“@ECoastBias: Shorter shoes? RT @BSnowScout: As a basketball player Amir Garrett is listed at 6'6 190, as a baseball player 6'5 210.. Interesting....”

Well we know he didnt shrink lol. So height is just a number, hell be at least as tall as he was last year when we (I) thought he was 6'6 :)
*wipes ketchup from his eyes* - I guess Heinz sight isn’t 20/20.

Conflicted.  Always want the best for our kids.  But find myself hoping Amir looks at best "promising" for at least a couple of baseball seasons.   :)

Let's hope he is a late bloomer ala Sandy Koufax, nolan Ryan or RA Dickey (well maybe not as late as RA).

Dude is 19 years old, the Reds will take it way easy with him. I'm glad he got his first start and game action though, dude is a great guy. I'm happy I got to spend my last semester at St. John's with a class with him.

Looks like he started the game

Single, hit a batter, 2 outs, a run scores on a ground out, walked next batter
then manager changes pitchers  with 2 outs in top of 1st?

I really like Amir a lot. Seems like a great kid, and he shows so much pride in St Johns. I am pretty sure that one way or another, in 20 or 30 years Amir Garrett will be an ambassador for us, repping the Red and Black. That whole period when we weren't sure if he would be back, it seems as if to him there was never any doubt he would be. Such a talented kid who loves being here. Always a part of the St Johns family.

Probably was slated to only go like 25 pitches in his debut.

At this very early stage of his baseball career, his allowed runs and hits don't mean as much as velocity, movement and command of his pitches (although, the better he excels in these categories, you'd think the less runs and hits he will give up).  It would be interesting to see a scouting report on Amir at the end of this season to find out how high they think his ceiling is.
