“@DanielJMartin_: Top candidates in mix for St. John's asst. coaching job, according to source: Darrick Martin, Jim Whitesell, Gene Keady, Frank Allocco”

Don't see Whitesell going anywhere with Majerus now out for the year.  And Allocco is out.  And everyone knows my take on Keady.

I actually think Majerus' situation makes it more likely Whitesell will leave.  Think about it, he is not even sure Majerus will ever be the coach again at SLU and if he is not the next coach is going to want to hire his own staff which means he could be out of a job in a year anyway.  So this may be a prime opportunity to bolt for a good job with some stability at this point.

Fair enough but I see that as leaving SLU high and dry.  Just my 2 cents but not something I would do or want someone doing.  Also not thoroughly impressed with his resume.  Nor anyone's thats really being considered for that matter.

Exactly. If he would do it to them, he'd do it to us.

Not necessarily.  If they only give him an "interim" title like Dunlap was given at Arizona, he very well may reject it and for good reason.

He wasn't given the interim tag.  They gave it to another assistant.

They gave it to Pennell after Dunlap told them he wouldn't take the head coach gig with the interim tag.

No timetable? What is he waiting for? That is ridiculous. The season is right around the corner.

Jim Crews is the interim coach.  Former long time coach at Evansville.

Right.  So an assistant coach with an uncertain future working for a head coach on leave and whose situation is in flux is offered an assistant job at a BCS school with stability decides to leave for that job.  The NCAA should investigate.

In a sport with such high ethical standards by both players and coaches something like this would be inexcusable.  A man like that belongs in Guantanamo Bay.

I think the original poster assumed that Whitesell, the Assistant Head Coach, was getting the interim tag when he made the original post.  If Whitesell had been named Billiken coach for this season it would have been a PR disaster on both sides for him to leave for another job less than a week after Majerus' heart problems became public.  I would have agreed with that sentiment.  Now that the original assumption has been corrected I think most people's opinions would have changed.

I disagree.  Both posters knew he was not the interim coach.  I think they believe it would be unfair to leave the St. Louis now when they would be short staffed.

That's not how I read it above.  If that's the case then I would put myself firmly in the middle between the two opinions.  Undecided!

No but Lavin does and believe it or not he is the head coach.

You're right.  I would voice my displeasure with Coach right now in an email.  I might even offer my services as an assistant if he cannot decide on a hire.

you are 100% correct but if he hires a guy with Darrick Martin's background...   who handles advanced video scouting and game prep work.?

He has 3 assistants, a DOBO and several others on his staff.  I presume one of those would be the canddiate.

Next question.
