Dave there are so many things that will go into this hiring..Will they get a bench guy?? Will that guy be someone who knows the league or a former head coach?? Will it be a kind of coaching expert emeritus like George Blaney at Uconn?? Will it be a guy Lav is more familiar with whose coaching roots are out west?? Hard to think of names when the news has just broken but this should be interesting.

Hopefully Lavin

The big question.  The obvious choice is to bump up Mo Hicks, not necessarily to Dunlap's position as Lavin's right hand man but as a regular assistant (perhaps you give Rico Hines Dunlap's old position).

Or you just hire someone and keep Hicks as DOBO.

Either way a position is going to be filled.  And the DOBO can be a splashy hire itself.  Jerry Wainwright was just hired as DOBO at Marquette by Buzz Williams.

I'll throw out 2 names from a few years ago Jimmy Patsos HC at Loyola -MD and Slice.

Dave mentioned Cluess.

I'm not familiar with coaching circles, but it seems to me the best fit is somebody like Dunlap.   Most assistant coaches are already tied to their perspective "coaching trees".    And are waiting out a head coaching gig.

What superb tacticians are out there that make the rounds on the coaching clinics?  And is there anybody that's talked about a lot but is only at the DII level?
Seems like a great x's and o's guy from the DII level, or an NBA assistant who is like the 5th assistant on the roster - those would be the guys I would look at.   Because we can offer them two years of high profile assistant work in the BE, followed by a chance to be a head coach somewhere.

But who knows.

I think the hire calls for a pure x's and o's type guy, i don't think we need a big time recruiter since Lav and Tony C are getting it done. Plus the program is headed in the direction of a program that will begin to get looks off the bat from big time guys across the country. With the Dunlap hire and Moe moving up the board we are headed in the right direction without a doubt. Congrats coach you helped restore a proud program and there will always be a seat on the bench for you here. Now lets see, Mark Jackson head coach, Mike Dunlap head coach and Moe hopefully a lottery pick and a Hall of Famer in Chris Mullin..... not bad

Will be interesting to see who Dunlap hires to fill out his staff (although I'm sure Jordan will be heavily involved in the decision making.)  Any chance Dunlap tries to bring Rico along?
