I like this schedule.  I'm not particularly worried about our strength of schedule.   I want these guys to get comfortable.   And after that first week - baptism by fire coach would say-  they can settle down and work out whatever weaknesses the staff sees.

And it's not that common to play out of conference games in January and February.   I think we've been spoiled with Duke and UCLA lately.   And let's not forget, for years we played Duke in December.

Based on this, I think we could be 11-3 going into conference play.  And that's before Branch starts playing.   I'd sign up for that right now.

Agreed.  Last year's schedule was great for exposure, but a killer of confidence for an undermaned, freshman team.  This year, we will have a better shot at starting BE play with a solid record, and if we can take care of business in the BE, i.e., manage to be 4 or 5 games above 500 in BE play, and make a nice little run in the BE tourney, I think we have a shot at making the Big Dance.

Also, relatively few away games in this year's out of conference schedule, aside from the preseason tournament.

Some of it was out of our hands, but last year we played @Kentucky, @Detroit, and @Duke.
This year... @San Francisco.

Should make life easier.    And last year's CVC Tournament wasn't exactly a home game either... we were definitely out numbered by Arizona fans.

Gift and Lindsey beat up on patsies and then they tanked against good teams. I don't see the advantage of preparing for the BE by playing teams without BE caliber talent. So they'll house Florida Gulf Coast. How does that help them? I see way too many patsies.

That and it's kind of a wasted ticket. There is no marquee game in November or December to go to.

Would probably sign up for that.  Depends on who the losses were.  I might be bullish and say 12-2.

There's only 12 non conf games.  Don't count those two exhibitions.  I'd like to see 11-1 with 9-3 being the worst case scenario to position for a bid.  Any loss not occurring in Charleston would be an upset.  Win Charleston and then go 12-0 before conference play would be a joy to see.

I didn't count.  Blame Desco who started the talk with 11-3.  I took away the L and added the W :)

But yes then I agree with your post.

You're right.. the exh games don't count.     Got ahead of myself there.

And I agree with you.  Any loss outside of Charleston would be an upset.    That doesn't mean it won't happen.   But we should be favored at home against Detroit, South Carolina, and UNC Ashville.   But it won't shock me if we dropped one of those games.

Is UNC any good?   They were a tournament team, but does anyone know anything about them?

Sucks but I thought previous mention from STJ was Branch could play Dec 16th.  St. Francis game is Dec 15th so he will just have 1 tuneup (Asheville) before BE games.

When you look at what some teams are offering to matchup with them it's kind've interesting.    I was just looking at different teams randomly..

San Francisco posts:
"San Francisco is looking for 1 more team to complete its Hilltop Challenge over Thanksgiving. Contact Jack Kennedy with interest. 40K, Hotel Rooms, Meals, and Ipod Shuffles"

Any loss in the non conf would be disappointing. We play all cupcakes. Bring on Baylor in charleston! Hopefully this is a monster year in the big east because if not our SOS will be horrendous.  I would have rather played Iona or manhattan over st Francis and Fordham

What's the benefit of Iona/manhattan vs st. Francis/Fordham?  I see it as a wash.  I certainly would like to get Baylor in the Charleston Classic.  Once again, our SOS won't matter all that much if we just take care of business and win games.

completely agree.  last year, we overdid it with the brutal schedule.  this is a better mix.

I think staff sees that as well.  Some of the schedule deficits of big non-conference schools are factors beyond control.  Ucla didn't want any more series with us. Duke series on hiatus.
