another silly fan poll to kill some time
« on: August 08, 2012, 12:14:14 PM »
just wondering who you think will be our second leading scorer next year.  personally, i haven't seen any of the new guys play, but i've seen enough of amir last year to believe that he'll be a double digit scorer next year.  i think that we will play both big and small at times to get this kid pt at a crowded position.  after harrison, i see balanced scoring for the rest of the team, with a deep rotation...so that may be enough for amir to take the honors.  any thoughts?

I think Jakarr is the 2nd scorer this season, i predict around 13-14 ppg.
I think Amir will be 3rd

Great poll idea.
Gonna be tough.  I think after Dee there are going to be a lot of guys in the 9-12 point range on any given day.  Sanchez, Amir, Karr, Greene, even Obekpa.   Remember a big man needs 2 put backs and 4 FT's and they are right in the 8 point range.

Don't see Opekpa in the 8-12 pt range yet Moose as he wasn't an offensive player in HS and now at highest next level as a rookie. Do believe he will get there eventually though. Thankfully we don't need him to score right now. Agree with you on Sanchez, Karr and Amir and Phil.

I think we've got a lot of athletic grinders, but Bourgault has the make up of a scorer. I think we improve immediately if Gift and Pointer stop shooting threes. Bourgault can have their shots. I think they'll add up. If he has a mid range game where he can put it on the floor, pull up and hit a 10-12 footer, he'll be ideal. We simply didn't have that option last year.

I see him putting 13 ppg.

I also see Sampson and Garrett both putting up 10/11 ppg.

I think the biggest factor that will drive down his ppg will be the minutes between him and the senior Gift.  Plus a little Sanchez sprinkled in.

But those numbers can add up.  I mean Gift had 126 FT attempts last year.  Big men are gonna get cheap chances to put points on the board.

Jamal Branch  :)      Just to be contrary.  I still remember when he went for 48 pts versus Houston-Yates his senior year.   If they slough off him to try to cover Harrison, he will make them pay.

But I'm also not ruling out a HUGE increase for Sir Dom.  I think he has the talent and physicality to overwhelm players at this level.   Just not sure if he's there YET.

Was on my way to post Sir Dom. Maybe not this year maybe this year, but when the breakout comes look out!

Phil Greene at 12. A bunch of others around 8-11
*wipes ketchup from his eyes* - I guess Heinz sight isn’t 20/20.

Does anyone know what basketball Dom is/was involved in this summer?

I was feverishly searching google images for a picture of a basketball in a bikini to no avail.

+1   I like what you're thinking Poison.   Marco could definitely be an "x" factor.
And his shooting will be needed in the worst way.

I just wonder how much time he gets at the 2/3 when you have D'angelo, Dom, Amir, even Felix all battling for minutes at that spot.. heck even Phil Greene will probably spell D'angelo for a few minutes once Branch is elidgible.

Good answer though.   I'm rooting hard for all our guys to play well - but playing time is going to go to those that can score.   We have a ton of defenders and athletes - guys who shoot efficiently and don't turn it over will get extra minutes without a doubt.

Desco, to me, it's going to be about who worked the hardest this summer? Garrett is playing baseball, and as much I love him, it's hard to see how much improving he could do on the court. Still, he's already good, so he'll play. Sir Dom's freshman season reminded me Lavor Postell. If he works like Lavor, he'll start.

Then there is Phil Greene, who I'm going to take as my player to surprise this year. And so what if it's only because of the photo of him where he's ripped up, because it is. I saw hard work in that photo, and I like that the ball could be in his hands to start the season.
