Best College backcourt ever?
« on: September 03, 2012, 12:38:59 PM »
Over in the "40 minutes of Hell", Choz4Life went with  Greg Anthony/Anderson Hunt (UNLV)  #1, Lee Mayberry/Todd Day (Arkansas) #2.

For a tandem, I'll go old school  - one was College Player or the year winning the NCAA tourney, the other finished 2nd for POY  the following year  (and was robbed) repeating as NCAA Champion  - Walt Hazzard/ Gail Goodrich (UCLA).

Anyone else have a nominee?

Not the best ever of course... but just thinking back to when I was a kid in the late 80s, there were some really nice guard combos that I think a lot of people probably forget about...  anybody remember Georgia Tech and Illinois around 88-89 seasons.  Think Illinois lost to Michigan in the final four that year.     Kenny Anderson and Dennis Scott for the Yellow Jackets, and Nick Anderson  and Kendall Gill for those Illini teams.

Those guys aren't going down in the history books,  but man were they good.

Baldi: Fire and Ice! very underrated.

Dont go as far back as you green.

But I never seen a backcourt dominate on the ball as Anthony/Hunt.
Parking only for NYCHA permit holders.

Yea, people never gave that team enough credit for their record because they were in the A10... but they were great.   You don't win that many games by accident.

Not going to touch Goodrich and Hazzard, but Isiah and Wittman deserve mention. Also, Pete Maravich and whoever played with Pete Maravich.

Wasn't Mike Woodson a piece in that backcourt as well?     Good mention.

Excellent call with Fire and Ice Baldi...   forgot the nickname till Choz mentioned it.

As a Bruin fan, it'll be intersting to see how the 2007 Final four UCLA backcourt rotation of Arron Afflalo, Darren Collison and Russell Westbrook will be remembered from a hindsight of say, 15-20 years.....

Jameer and Delonte was a pleasure to watch.

One of my fave BE backcourts of all time (and I do hate to admit): Doron Sheffer/Ray Allen.

Took me a day and a half to remember third member of Nova Leftwich, Melchionni, and Wally Jones.

If Sheffer and Allen are up there, El Amin and Rip are too. No?

I think we should go decade by decade instead of "ever" to broad of a spectrum and to many great back courts over the years , decade wise lets look at , deron,Luther,dee brown; jameer, delonte; nardi, ray Lowry; Felton mcants;

I agree, we could look at a 5'9 guard who put up 35 and 12 in 1937, but the same guy wouldnt start for Albany today.
