Jones about 6"7?

Looks at least that.  Maybe taller.  Jakarr looks taller than the past too.  Got some real decent height up front now.

This has been a pet peeve of mine all offseason MCN, I'm not trying to pick out your comment specifically.
But, 9 of the top 10 teams in our conference last season had a player over 6'10.   (Marquette being the exception).
We still don't.   Now maybe that suits our style of play, and maybe it will work out.   But I have a hard time saying we have good height now, or even that we have decent height.   I hate to say it but we're still undersized.
Not as badly as we were.  But we're not as well rounded as I'd like.

Did they just have a player 6-10 and above or did he contribute.  I don't know the answer just honestly asking.

I'd have to go back and look but off the top of my head:
Fab Melo and Keita, Dieng, Henry Sims, Herb Pope, Drummond, Gilbert from Pitt ... so there were a good amount who were big contributors.

Gilbert did not contribute at all.  And I'd argue Keita didn't.  The others were definitely contributors.  Shocked Pope was listed that big.

And MCN, I'm not saying it should be the highest priority.   Like you say - our style is better suited for more athletic guys.
My point is just that if we want to get where us as fans dream of ... say Elite 8 and beyond ... you need a well rounded team.    Look at that matchup we had with Gonzaga two years ago.   We were fine almost all season, but then we get a tournament game against a team with 2 7 footers.
Going forward the roster should be balanced out with at least one guy with size.   That's all I'm advocating.

Pope and drummond measured under 6'10 at the combine. Pope only 6'7. Only 10 college players measured over 6'10 at this year combine

You're using some arbitrary number like 6'10" as if it makes any difference compared to 6'9".  I'd agree if most of the frontlines we we're playing are averaging 7'1 across the board but that is not the case at all. Wingspan is a lot more important.   Back when our biggest players were 6'7 and we had no real post players, I think it was a bigger problem.  I don't think we're really undersized now though, against most
teams. It's even less important when looking at the style of ball that we are looking to play.  Certainly wouldn't mind one 7-footer on the roster if he's the right guy, but there rent many at that size that would be contributing.

I agree on wingspan. Guys like pope was only 6'7 but had a 7' wingspan. Royce white and yancey gates are other examples.

Yeah thats what I'd pay more attention too.  And I think Karr, Obekpa and even Orlando have pretty good wingspan.

We are undersized. There's no doubt about that. What we'll need to be successful is out forwards aggressively rebounding the ball. If they use their athleticism be faster than our opponents, and if these guys really, really show a will to defend, it will be fine.

We had successful d w Grant, Postell, Artest and Jessie inside. We can w Obekpa, Sanchez, Gift, Garrett, Sampson, Jones and Pointer. Just need to find the right mix inside. I think we have to give a little in height, but we should fly up and down the court.

Exactly.  Remember a height mismatch on one end of the floor is also a mismatch on the other in many respects.  So it works both ways.

Last year Amir Garrett was our back up power forward, this year we have 5 guys who would see time at the PF before Amir would. As long as we dont see several injuries I am not concerned with our size. I would say our main concern will be scoring droughts.

I'll also admit, I think sometimes my obsession with having a big man is because it's been such a long time since we had a player with good low post skills.
I'd be the first one to say.. if we had a Dajuan Blair type guy, you wouldn't hear me crying about more height.

I was totally wrong about Pope by the way.   But there were others... Yarou for Villanova, and Gilchrist from USF to name two.

I wouldn't be so sure Amir won't start or see a lot of time at the four.  He's a very strong kid  that proved he could hold his own down low, and he knows the defense better than any of the newbies.  Remember, rotating quickly and the ability to cover a number of positions are king in the STJ zone.  Lavin is a "best five" kind of guy as well.

I don't think Rico Gathers has all that much muscle on our guy Christian Jones.  Kid is a bull...

He doesn't have the same skill set, though, so we can use him as our hockey goon when we play Baylor. We can send him in to take cheapshots at Gathers. ;D

I think his skill set is similar to Gathers.  Bully on the glass and get dunks.  Not saying he's as good as Gathers.  Maybe we have a "poor man's" version, but both guys seem to bring the same type of game to the table.

Has anybody actually seen Jones game or skillset, other than that year and a half old  highlight vid from his junior season  (and in that, I don't see THAT much similarity to Gathers, other than both are playing as a PF).   Can't remember any recruit with as much mystery surrounding his game since the pre-internet days...

I'm in MCN's side of the argument. Both are bruising undersized power forwards who will do a lot of their damage close to the rim.

BTW Is anyone else really impressed from this video? Take away the competition and just look at his footwork, touch, and athletic ability. I think he'll have to be givin some time this year due to his strength alone.

The vid is why it's so insane there was ZERO info available about him his senior year.  He was at a name school, known for big-time recruits.   The vid seems to show decent quickness and speed (there's the one steal where he move out of camera range for a breakaway dunk).  Seems to be able to hold his dribble thru traffic to the hoop.  Again, just highlight reel, so of course he makes the shots, but I like that there's no hesitance in taking the midrange - seems to shoot it with great confidence (would REALLY like to know what his FT% is).   Appears to make smart decisions with the ball - looks like a fairly high BB IQ.   Obviously can jump, but REALLY like how quick his SECOND jump is going after misses.    Seems to have good hands.

Again, real mystery how this kid fell under the radar.

Also, while a bit short, he's not really undersized for a COLLEGE 4.   With shoes,  calling him 6'7 230 seems about right.   My Bruins got to 3 final fours with 6'7 225 Luc Mbah a Moute at the 4.   Corliss Williamson won a title at Arkansas as THE power guy (Big Nasty) at 6'7 230.   Kentucky won the title last year - At forward, MKG played 31 mpg, Darius Miller played 27 - both are 6'7 230ish... UConn won the year before with Roscoe Smith at the 4.   That's Keith Faried, Kawhi Leonard size.   (hey - not saying he can be that kind of player, only that he's got that kind of size)...

I don't see any difference between Jones and Sean Evans.  This kid is freaking STIFF. Hopefully the kid can come in and throw some guys around 10-15 mins a game for a few years while he works on his skills.
