I don't think Lavin has as many options as your implying Fun.  At least not that many attractive ones.    Even if we were to string together a series of successful seasons is Wake Forest going to offer him more than SJU and Repole are now?   I'm not convinced.

USC of course is another story.   But again, we would need to be moderately successful before that became an option too.

I wasn't implying what you're inferring. Lavin signed on at SJ to coach against half a dozen HOF coaches in one of the premiere college BB conferences in the country in the media capital of the world. If he'd wanted to coach in the A10 presumably he'd have had the opportunity after he left UCLA. I'm not postulating his moving to the ACC, I'm considering the effect of everyone else moving to there except SJU, which will be soon be relegated to a glorified version of the MAAC. As some wag - oh all right it was me - put it elsewhere

"Three years ago [TGAPL] was a virile man in the prime of life competing in the best basketball conference in the country in the media capital of the world. Today he's an incontinent middle aged cancer survivor fighting over leftover recruits with Mike Rice. Some wag - oh all right it was me - once described Saint John's as where basketball coaches go to die. Mahoney, Fraschilla, Jarvis, Roberts. Each took the Saint John's job on the come and each failed spectacularly and left with their career and reputation in ruins. If TGAPL is in fact omniscient he shirley sees the writing on the wall."

And not even Mike Rice, Kevin Willard.

It's odd to me that fans of the most overrated sad sack disappointing franchise in the history of organized sports can remain so blissful and optimistic in the face of impending disaster. I expect doom up by six with the ball with 4 seconds left: because of what I've seen happen. This - what's happening right now before our eyes - is a disaster of biblical proportions, nearly. It's locusts, fire and flooding. The lion lieth down with the lamb. The Whore of Babylon is drinking the blood of the saints. Mene mene tekel upharsin.

Too late now, but I personally would have liked to see SJU, Gtown and Nova try to link up with the Philly A-10 teams, Umass, GW and Rhode Island. Would have been close to the original BE that I grew up with. I know financially and in every other way except basketball it wouldn't have made sense and would probably not been able to survive. From a purely basketball  context I would have enjoyed it though.

@MHver3: St Johns and GT Introduced a vote to dissolve the BigEast today 2 votes short of the 2/3 needed. 3 schools were no shows. #stjbb

take this all with a grain of salt.  don't know the validity to any of this:

MHver3 @MHver3

Depaul and Marquette only non-fb to vote no.

@cal405 that was the plan. They want to disband to eliminate buyouts and waiting periods.

Assuming its just the 7 schools voting.  So if STJ and Gtown voted to disband and Marquette and DePaul said no, then Prov, Hall and Nova no showed.

This guy covers Marquette. The author of the bogus tweets covers his head at night.

“@theIWB: Twitter rumors say St. John's & Georgetown led vote to dissolve the Big East today. I can confirm that's untrue, no such vote took place.”

SMU, BSU and SDSU is the first clue this was bogus.  Those schools have no vote at this point until July of 2013 when they officially join.

That is the whole point of the dissolution, the basketball schools would need to act quickly (with the assumption that UCONN or Lousiville leave to join the ACC) so as to have the 2/3 necessary votes BEFORE the new schools join to dissolve the conference.

And they can only do that if/when Louisville or UCONN announce an agreement to leave the conference.

What a joke.  SJU/Tulane at MSG, get your tickets now.

Can we have a formal apology to Marinatto?  He deserves one.

All that being said, a great excuse to make a trip to New Orleans (my favorite city in the US).

the commish is finally doing something proactive.  most of the good ideas are coming from these boards...not the commissioner's office.

this is a good move.  more needs to be done.
