Adding some humor to such a depressing time;

“@DanielJMartin_: Well, I guess Jim Boeheim was right after all. Rick Pitino is "full of sh*t". Louisville to the ACC.”

To be fair, this move goes above Rick being primary decision maker.

Good analysis of why Louisville won out over UConn and Cincy;

“@YahooSports: The #ACC added Louisville as part of realignment. @YahooForde tells why: http://t.co/AQFOKZqI

“@SIPeteThamel: Louisville to the ACC. What does it mean? "All bets are off." My @sinow story on the chaos just beginning. http://t.co/KXg2I0qs

"ACC's panic is worse right now.  I think they're going to lose plenty more." (MCN Recent Assessment)

Guess you were off a bit my friend. Could not resist!

You don't think the ACC adding Louisville is also a panic move?  Big East is done, we know that.  Why would the ACC want all the Big East's shitty football schools if they weren't expecting to lose more?  Why the change of heart on Louisville now?  They're just preparing for what is ahead.   Bet you couldn't resist... :angel:

How else would you suggest they replace Maryland to get back to 14?  What school?

Not to beat this to death Marcus, but original premise was BE is more vulnerable than ACC. I believe that is clear, but spin it as you want. Take a look at TV contract differential. BE is now negotiating its contract, but clearly not from a position of strength.

I'm not suggesting they shouldn't.  I would too.  Just saying that it is panic on both Louisville and ACC's part.  They know they're going to get ripped soon.  Trust me, it is coming.  The ACC eventually will look a lot like the Big East this year.  They'll still be caught outside the Big 4.  Just wait til Big 12 starts grabbing.

Again, that wasn't my original premise, but might be yours.  Big East football was cooked a long time ago.  ACC is just as vulnerable now. Now he ACC is the one with any programs of interest to the Big 10/12 and SEC.They just started the grab first.  I still think ACC could lose most of their prime football programs to other conferences.

  Big East has nowhere to negotiate from now.  Never said that either.  I was speaking of Football vs basketball schools and who had more to lose.  It is certainly the football schools hence the panic.  Only issue for me is that I love to watch SJU bball on tv, which might be effected.  I still the the bball schools will be fine in the end in a decent league.

The administrations for UConn and Cincy must be pretty upset today.  ACC just basically said, no one else wants you (UConn and Cincy), so when or if we decide to expand to 16, we'll let you know.  Also, I wonder if the NCAA could revoke the Big East's automatic BCS bowl bid based on the current state of the conference.  Gotta think Boise St. is thinking about that issue.

  Also, I wonder if the NCAA could revoke the Big East's automatic BCS bowl bid based on the current state of the conference.

The NCAA does not control the BCS.  Remember the BCS and the Bowls are a product of the Presidents and schools the NCAA does not have a playoff system for FBS schools.  Their jurisdiction ends when the FBS regular season ends.

But to answer your question they already have.  Remember the new BCS format starting in 2014 which includes a 4 team playoff has automatic BCS bids for 5 of the current BCS conferences (SEC, Big 10, Big 12, PAC 12 and ACC) and the Big East gets thrown in with 5 other conferences to get the 1 remaining bid.

Thanks Fordham.  What a sh*t show this conference realignment has become.

Assuming that this trend of keeping football stays intact, Big East should make a bold statement for basketball and do the following

Make a mega basketball conference with 14 teams playing football and see if this is good enough to keep BCS bid

I will keep UCONN and Cincy in the mix as they simply may just be left out unless ACC loses 2 teams and they add them

* Football and basketball
** Football only

EAST
Georgetown
Providence
Seton Hall
Villanova
St. Johns
Temple *
Richmond
USF *
UCF *
UCONN *
Tulane *
Memphis *

WEST
Marquette
DePaul
Cincinnati *
Houston *
SMU *
SD State *
Gonzaga
UNLV *
Butler
Xavier
St. Mary's
Creighton

FOOTBALL ONLY
Navy
Bosie State
East Carolina

On point Dave;

“@DaveKrupinski: While most schools are leaving the Big East don't be surprised when basketball coaches of the schools left do the same.”

There is still a possibility that the ACC could put the final dagger into the Big East if they lose 2 more schools, if Clemson and NC State bolt for example, would be out of the realm of possibility that they add Cincinnati and UCONN for football/basketball and St Johns and Georgetown for basketball only.

wake aresco when it's over.  the big east has to fire this jerk and move on.  other conference commissioners are picking the corn out of the shit the big east has become...while aresco is napping.

Problem is Aresco works for ALL the Big East presidents, not just SJU and Georgetown.   If he proposed a basketball only league he'd be spitting in the face of USF, Cinncinnatti, etc and they're his bosses too.
His job description is to keep the Big East as a meaningful football and basketball conference.   Not just one or the other.

And that gets back to the inherent problem with the Big East;  the Basketball schools and Football schools have different priorities.

Exactly

That is why the decision of the future of this conference rests solely on the basketball only schools that remain.
