Absolutely.

And it doesn't need to be this monstrous coast-to-coast league people are talking about with Gonzaga and St Marys.

Keep the basketball only schools and then add who you can from:

Xavier
Butler
St Joes
Dayton
VCU
Richmond
George Mason
even a Murray State.

I would love to keep Temple and Memphis involved, but unless they can keep their football in CUSA, that probably won't happen.

Regardless, add several of the above schools to St Johns, Georgetown, Villanova, Marquette, Providence, Depaul, Seton Hall  and we're good to go.
12 or 14 teams, most on the east coast, and at the very furthest in the central time zone.   All who put their basketball programs ahead of all us.

That's the best outcome for SJU in my opinion.   And I pray it comes to fruition.

The only reason I posted a monster conference is that the Big East or whatever we would be called would need a marketing tag as a mega basketball conf coast to coast and I am not sure is a predominately eastern seaboard basketball conference would do that.

Yea, I can see some value in that.   But to me, the less travel the better.   If teams don't have to fly to half their conference games that means they take home more of the tv revenue.
32 teams is a bit ridiculous I think, but a mega conference that included Gonzaga and west coast teams is still preferable to staying with the new football schools in the Big East.  That I agree on.

Trust me, I don't want that mega conference, I would like to be included with Georgetown, and Nova to ACC but personally I don't think that happens

A 12-14 team basketball only conference would be fine to me but not sure that it will be enough revenue to be big time

St Johns
Georgetown
Villanova
DePaul
Providence
Seton Hall
Marquette
Richmond
Butler
Murray State
Xavier
Dayton
St. Josephs
Virginia Commonwealth

BTW, read Aresco's statement regarding loss of Louisville, looks like more of the same will happen and can't imagine we aren't on phone with UNLV right now trying to add them. & basketball only schools need to step up immediately and do something.

why would those teams leave the atlantic ten.  their league is on a par with ours....in some ways it's better.

Don't think A-10 is anywhere near as marketable as Big East name.  I wouldn't discount that nor would I discount the value of our bbal only programs including ones with football like Memphis and Temple who could included if they wish in this type of bball league.   There will come a time when we will have to merge with many A-10 schools anyway.  It should be done under the Big East name.

The basketball school have to be careful with this because like it or not the BE did sign a contract with MSG and if they all leave and form a new conference we will not have MSG anymore. The other issue  is if we dissolve the Big East what happens to MSG? would they be willing to sign another contract with the new league?

Ill tell y'all the first step we can do... it starts tomorrow night by puttin an SEC school in its place. And its place is under the heal of our Air J's.

Forget about breaking away and forming a new BE.  sju is not going anywhere but staying put as a charter member in what is clearly the sixth best football/hoops conference in a TV land that only shows respect to four conferences.

These schools only care about money.  And there seems to be a lot more of it if we are aligned with football schoools - even ones 2,000 miles away.

This whole mess is lousy for fans, but it is not the end of the world either.

It's time for the Johnnies to become a gonzaga or a butler.  They did well in lower rated conferences.  We mostly stunk for the past fifteen BE seasons.

Couldn't agree more.  I'm tired of all this conference realignment crap.  Whatever happens will happen with or without our approval.

Lets get back to watching the Johnnies win some games.  Hopefully, this ends up being a special season so it can distract us from the circus that has become college athletics.

Good rant but does not give any ideals or plans except to stop "taking it".

Is the most prudent thing to do is to sit back and rake in the exit $$$ wit all the fball defections and then move along?

I know we are all tired of this, but will BE settle this and take 5 million?

the question I have is how did Rutgers vote in November on the raise to 10M?  Their home attendence will stay the same as their fans stay home rather than come to watch a punching bag versus the Big 10 schools.  the only way their attendence remains the same is if fans/alumni of the visitors show up.

I rarely, if ever have a *source, but I spoke with someone yesterday who does transactional work for one of the local sports stations networks.  The BE deal is of interest to them because they purchase lower tier games from ESPN or whomever and then air the game regionally.

This person told me it's unclear to most in the industry how much the Big East will get for it's contract; but almost everyone assumes it's going to be a split contract between ESPN and Fox Sports.
ESPN has taken an approach that they don't want anyone to have exclusive rights over any league (maybe they feel burned after the PAC12 deal?) , and FOX is looking for tons of programming for it's new channel(s).
ESPN meanwhile doesn't want a lot of games, just the "tier 1" matchups.
NBC isn't expected to even bid on the Big East's contract.   They were slightly interested in cross promotion when we still had ND, but the reality is they want college football, hockey and major league soccer.   If they were to have a big schedule of college basketball games that conference would be off the air for 3 weeks next February because they carry the winter olympics and NBC Sports is going to be a primary channel for that.

CBS Sports is seen as the wildcard.  As of yet they haven't made it known in the industry that they want to make a big push for the Big East.   But it's possible they could.
