I think you will see Jakarr score average 14-16pts.  That will be a significant portion of our scoring load.

Congratulations to Hollywood, staff and players for making his return to action a triumphant one!

Obekpa - Best 6' 8" shot blocker ever?

Still a ways to go.  That honor still belongs (at least ror a little while longer) to Tarvis Williams of Hampton Institute - who led D-1 in blocks in both 1999 and 2001.  Williams measured 6'7.25 w/o shoes at the pre-draft in 2001...

it was painfully obvious to me that we need Marco and Sanchez on the floor.  DLo and Phil cannot carry this team consistently every night against tougher competition.  40+ from them combined is not going to happen every night.  we need a scorer at the forward position.

Don't forget Jakarr.  Probably the worst game he has EVER played since he first touched a basketball.  He will be a scoring force from the forward position.

I don't think Jakarr will be a scoring force.  He's never really been that type of player--that's not to say he won't have his 15-20 point games or dominate in his own way.  The best case for this year is to have Jakarr put back a few offensive rebounds, get a few buckets on the break, hit an open J, and take h is man off the bounces once or twice.

So what are your final season numbers looking like for him?

File it under  "still stunned" and "pet peeves" regarding stats in college hoops.    "Won't be a scoring force" but WILL  "have his 15-20 point games"?????   Anthony Davis just went #1 in the draft after averaging...14.2 pts a game as a frosh.

The pet peeve is throwing stats around without comprehending - "this player should average 25 a game", "that one should get 10 rebs a game", "this other wone should get 8-10 assists"... and therefore undervaluing what is actually being accomplished based on this  alternate-reality stat's world.

I'm having problems getting thru to fans on the Bruin boards about the start freshman Jordan Adams has had - 47 pts int he first 2 games - 23.5.   Of course it will go down as the season progresses, but it's an INCREDIBLE start - best 2 game frosh debut in UCLA history (Kevin Love was #1 with 43 in his first 2 games) - and last year in D-1, 23.5 pts a game would have ranked THIRD in scoring at the end of the Year - only Oaklands Reggie Hamilton at 26, and Weber's Damon Lilliard at 24.9 scored more than 23.5.

In modern college hoops, 20 pts a game are rare (why I fould D'los 17 plus as a frosh so remarkable).   10 rebs a game are rare (UCLA fans are DISAPPOINED with Kyle - who's only averageing 8.5 boards!).  8 assists a game is incredibly rare (I believe SJU has had one, UCLA never has).  Career double/double guys are rare (I believe both SJU and UCLA have each had 5).

For guys like UCLA's Adams and St. John's Obekpa at the very START of their careers to already break ALL TIME SCHOOL records is INCREDIBLE!
