I don't see football schools battling for the Big East name.  Big east football is a national joke.  They need to run from that name.

Agreed, plus for the remaining football schools, the term "Big East" has absolutely no meaning geographically to the current conference composition.

It like this:

My wife is a straight up sensible sister so she aint no shoe girl (thanks be!) but she one time got a pair of Prada when her auntie passed.

Now she dont wear Prada. Got no desire to wear Prada. Dont understand why other peeps do when Aerosoles feel better.

So was she just gonna give the Prada away to some other sister just cause she want them?

No.

The Prada was worth money to others. Mad money in some case. And so it went up on the Bay and the biddin war lasted 10 days and 28 bids. Made out wit almost $400.

The point bein that Aresco dont need the BE name. And he got no desire to keep the BE name.

But he know its value to others. And he gonna command top dollar fo it, y'all best believe.

We all livin in a Prada world.

Parking only for NYCHA permit holders.

But the BigEast7 knows that too so they won't get top dollar.  They will get value but not top dollar

At this point, both schools have to stay in the Big East, but sources at Cincinnati and UConn are under the impression, even if it's not known to be true yet, that the Big Ten will raid the ACC for two more schools -- North Carolina and Georgia Tech.

Both Cincinnati and UConn sources have said they ultimately think they will be in the ACC.

Of course, the Big Ten may not move beyond 14 members. Still, ACC schools that could be ripe for poaching (Florida State and Clemson for a possible Big 12 play and NC State and Virginia Tech as a possibility to the SEC) are waiting to see what happens with a lawsuit over whether Maryland has to pay a $52 million exit fee.

"A week ago, the feeling among the schools was that they'd be happy with $2 million per year from television. Multiple sources have indicated the $3 million per school figure is looking like a more accurate number. Who will pony up?"

If true, I think this doubles what SJU currently takes in. I guess there is some value in college hoops.

3-point shot: Big East exit strategy
December, 24, 2012
DEC 24

AM ET

1. The presidents and athletic directors of the seven Catholic Big East schools (Georgetown, Villanova, Seton Hall, St. John's, Providence, Marquette, DePaul) will meet in early January to start extracting the schools, according to a source. The plan for the seven would be to get out for next season, but that's unlikely. A more realistic scenario is to cut out on July 1, 2014, a year before the 27-month exit of July 1, 2015. The lack of a television deal for the 2013-14 men's basketball season is a major concern for the seven. The seven are expected to come together after the holidays to pick a legislative team to orchestrate an exit.

What's in a name?

Lenn discusses how the new Catholic 7 can buy the rights to the name, Big East.

This is so refreshing to be on the offensive after nearly 20 years of taking a back seat to football. Things will work out fine for our new 12 team league.

I don't know what these conference are thinking all together, but I have to imagine Syracuse basketball is a big reason why the acc picked them up. UCONN's basketball (mens and womens) will help them.

Solid article on evolving sports television terrain, which will be part and parcel of our new league;

Another blow to BE FBall?

“@McMurphyESPN: Boise State remaining in MWC & will not join Big East in 2013, sources told @espn”

“@McMurphyESPN: W/Boise State remaining in MWC, San Diego State now is not required to pay exit fee if it decides not to join Big East”

It's going to be a great year. Now we just need the schools that had no business in the BE to bow out gracefully.

I saw on twitter that Boise State will still have to pay the 10 mil exit fee. Can't find it now but would be great if true. All these teams that aren't going to play a day in the conference will be money in St. Johns pocket.

I know its a pipe dream, but it would be great if UConn, Cincinnati, Temple and Memphis could move football only to another conference and stay with the 7 for all other sports. Then we pick up Butler or Xavier. Would be a nice bball conference.

I don't think there are enough big-picture people running the show, but if we could cut everyone out of the BE but those four, you then invite the entire Mountain West or MAC to join under the BE name for football. Then those schools get an in into a BCS bid, and we have a really good 12-team basketball league.

i am sorry but they would dump us in a heart beat if they got an offer from a REAL FB conference.  We have been abused long enough.  if they really want to stay, all they have to do is move their FB programs to Div 1-AA like Nova.
