And now San Diego St says goodbye to the Big East before they ever really said hello.  And they don't even have to pay an exit fee:

Kind of like a match.com date
More like a Manti girlfriend-they dated but never saw each other

Shorty is great. Seen him a few times. Never seen Black Keys but heard good things.   Taj Mahal and Del McCroury are definitely worth seeing also.   It's pretty much all a homerun.

When you go, do you just hit the fairgrounds or do you also hit the night time gigs, the clubs, bars, theaters?

Oh.. The Metermen.. You have to check them out.

 Sorry for the detour..

We did the fairgrounds and then did some of the clubs on frenchman st one night when we went 2 years ago.

If we go this year I'd seriously consider staying at one of the b&b's in the faubourg marigny which is right where all the music clubs are.

My friend who is a music producer is a huge black keys fan

I really want to see Kermit Ruffins also and I know he plays I think every thursday at some hole in the wall usually.

John Boutte is playing also that sunday so it would be cool to check him out since that tv show Treme is one of my favorite shows.

You ever listen to the group " smoking time jazz club " ? we saw them while they were playing one afternoon in the middle of the street that runs parallel to bourbon st. ( magazine st ? ). They were my favorite while we were down there.

Never heard of them.  Most of the time its the small unknown acts that end up being the most memorable.

Can't go this year as I have one daughter's communion the first weekend and another kid's birthday the next.  Maybe next year.

3. The Big East's departing seven Catholic, non-FBS schools are working on an exit plan, a television deal (sources continue to say Fox has an inside track) and ultimately a commissioner. The current commish who would be a fit is the West Coast Conference's Jamie Zaninovich. He has managed a private-school conference well of late and worked at Princeton, so he is not foreign to the Northeast. He had to deal with expansion in adding BYU and, next season, Pacific. Zaninovich already has contacts in the television industry and credibility within the NCAA tournament selection committee as a member. The committee might need to be lobbied to ensure an automatic berth once the league is formed.

My understanding is the committee does not need to be lobbied for an automatic birth because you need 7 schools to stay together for X amount of years and our group of 7 has been together that long.

That is what I read from various sources. The remaining schools left in old big east need to lobby for auto bid but from what I understand it is pretty much a shoe in that they will get it from jump street

http://www.sportsbusinessdaily.com/Journal/Issues/2013/01/21/Media/Fox-Sports-2.aspx

Fuel’s switch to Fox Sports 2 will be announced later this spring and completed in August, around the same time Fox rebrands Speed into Fox Sports 1, sources said.

Fox Sports 2 will be a national all-sports channel and will complement Fox Sports 1. The two channels will be aligned similar to ESPN and ESPN2, which share sports across both networks. Initially, the biggest sports events will air on Fox Sports 1, similar to how ESPN carries marquee games, like the BCS national championship game and “Monday Night Football.”

Fox Sports 1 will have more than double the distribution of Fox Sports 2 at launch, as Speed is in 81 million homes and Fuel is in just over 37 million homes.

'Cause I got nothing else to do, I thought I would review the basketball prowess of the Catholic 7 teams.  Assuming strength of schedule and RPI are all-defining here's what I found (Data from FOX hopefully I copied it accurately and they updated it recently):

                                                      RPI                             SOS
                                                     RANK                         RANK
Depaul                                          185                            185
Provi                                             110                              50
Seton H.                                         84                             112
St. Johns                                        56                               35
G-town                                           43                               76
Nova                                              58                               41
Marq                                              21                               20

Candidates
Virg Comm                                     27                              77
Xav                                                67                              42
Butler                                            12                              18
Temple                                          54                              78
St Louis                                         74                              85
Northeastern                                128                           166

I included Northeastern in as a candidate for the following reasons:  1)  Get a piece of the Boston TV market and 2)  Give the lower echelon teams someone to beat.

If you want to add a strong basketball school consider the following:
Cincy                                            23                               13

Article on the remaining Big East adding a 12th School. saw on some other boards that its Tusla but not sure if that is totally accurate. Also looks like they're going to hold the Big East name hostage for more money.

I really don't think Aresco can do much with MSG.  MSG can pretty much rip up the contract since they signed up for X and not they have Y in the conference.
