Once again C Jones failed to corral one single rebound although he did manage to get his hands on 2 defensive rebounds which he incredibly was outmuscled for with the actual result being 2 offense rebounds for St F at least one of which resulted in a put back and the foul. Sorry to say but so far C Jones has proven to be one of the worst rebounders I have ever seen. What has he gone, about a month without a rebound? I wouldn't play him another minute until he proves in practice he can board even a little bit. These are small weak opponents we are talking about not the big boys that await in the big east games. We wondered why he was under recruited. I now think he was over recruited. Sorry to seem so hard on CJ but get a rebound already.

A Top 300 raw, role player a few games into his freshmen season. How are you alive after the futility of the previous decade?

Not a freshman he is a junior. Guess you have survived by not following the team very closely. I survive by having teams in other sports and seeing St John's a lot more realistically than some others. I was at the game along with oh about 12 other St John's fans. Were you there?

Team played really well. We took a lead and didn't give it back, every time SF made a run, we came right back w a run of our own.
Sampson never looked better. Tremendous finisher.

And I'll add that Bourgault played his best game as a Johnny.

I'd say right now, he is as good as Sergio Luyk.
He needs to be better than that as the season progresses.
We played really well? You do realize we played a 2-7 St Francis team that doesn't have a player on their team that would get a sniff from us as a recruit and that Stony Brook just beat them by 16 ON THE ROAD so I guess being a notch below SB is an accomplishment. AS for Marco who I do like as a player he hit his open 2 threes and missed the rest of his shots that were contested. At least one of the 3s he made came of a lose ball scramble in which he got the ball and was wide open. Our offense continues to not run any plays to get him open or set any screens for him which makes me question why Lavin recruited both he and Max Hooper if he is not going to run plays for this type of player. But I guess everything remains rosy for those in Redmen La La Land.

LOL I can only imagine what your posts looked like 2 years ago when we lost to Fordham and St. Bonaventure. You're being  a negative nancy after a 17 point win. The recruiting thing is a stupid point. Mid majors can compete with the big boys even though they don't have the same quality recruits. Usually with smart coaching and more experienced players. Our players are very young. Basically you're saying we don't play well unless we win by 48 and marco hits all of his shots.

I'm realistic. Right now we are not a tournament team. NIT probably. But compared to how we've played our last few games, we played well. Most fans are happy with a 17 point win.

Poison do you believe that Marco played well because he got more PT or got more PT because he played well the first time he got on the court?  I know that is a crappy question that will be tough to answer, but I am just wondering because I think Marco needs time on the floor to play well. It is hard to have a guy sit on the bench and then say go hit your first shot or you're coming out.  So far this season I think Marco has thrown up any open look he has gotten because he knows he only has a few minutes to impress coach in the first half.  I think with a little more burn he could be more selective and much more productive.  We will need him down the road especially against a team like Cuse.

Marco was getting involved in the flow of the offense. He worked on defense. Saved a ball that going out of bounds and we wound up scoring off the play.

I was there like I am at most home and regional away games I can get to.  Christian is a freshman

Jones wouldn't be playing a all if Sanchez was cleared to play. He has a lot of growth and should have been redshirted instead of Gift.

As for our fans, zero reason for people not to attend a game in Brooklyn unless you had to work.

We talk a big game of being fans but no one shows up.

That affects recruiting and the growth of the program.

I have seen 4 St. Johns games this year and live in Los Angeles.

I bet some fans on this board haven't gone to one.

I know times are tough economically and people are busy but getting to a few games can't be that much of an expense especially if you shop around last minute on stub hub when tickets are basically are being given away.

We did play well. SF isn't a very good team but they are certainly every bit as good as the teams we've been playing. I think you can look at strong performances by Dom, Marco, Sampson and Harrison. And yea, Obekpa played beautifully. How can you not think this team has a chance w him in the middle?

Rebounding is mostly about effort.  I am all for giving freshmen some time, because they will only get better--Jones is no different--but you could send a 5'11 kid out there who would bang and get more boards that Jones.  His effort is unacceptable to me at this point.  Just being on the floor and playing PF a player should get 3-5 boards in 25 minutes.  We suck as a steam rebounding the ball, but everyone has shown me enough effort to believe they will pickup the necessary skill and get better with time...everyone but Jones.

There was one play against USF where Jones was 3-4 feet from the offensive glass after a missed shot. The ball was coming right to him, but Garrett shed his man and swooped in from 12 feet away, physically moved Jones, and got the rebound and the putback.  How the hell is any athlete on their heels in that situation?  It doesn't fly in football or basketball...you NEVER wait for the ball to come to you.

I happen to think we were playing better when our record was 2-2. We played well in Charleston T. Beat a representative Coll of C team in their gym, led for most of game and got caught at end against a good Murray St. team with a tremendous pg and nba prospect Isaiah Canaan, were within 3-5 pts with 3 minutes left against #14 Baylor and were coming off a nice win vs Detroit with another nba  caliber guard. Since then we have played against much weaker teams and except for the S Car game IMHO have not played as well. I actually analyze how we are playing and am not just happy because we win a game against inferior competition because I know how this will translate when we play the Syr and Villes of the world. Honestly, I think if we beat the Sisters of the Poor by one point some of you would be beyond thrilled.

We were playing better then.  But yesterday we played well again very similar to those games.  The games prior to this like NJIT, SF, and Fordham your correct it wasn't like earlier in the year.  A 17 pt win in a game never in doubt I just don't know why we seem to nitpick a game like that.

Happen to think CJ will be excellent as an upperclassman.
Plain silly to write him off.

Agree. He has a nice shooting touch and has shown flashes of being a good interior passer. Just which he wouldn't be such a twinkle toes under the basket. Guess I should also be thrilled by the play of the incredible Mr. Garrett (not directed toward you Mr. Choz-just a random thought).

Funny, you only seem to bring up Amir's play when he doesn't have a particularly good game (his worst of the season). I'm sure you will forget to acknowledge his play when he has another 15 and 11 game.

The kid has potential, sorry if you don't see it. He's inconsistent, but when he gets it together, he will be a great player for us as an upperclassmen.
