Sanchez nowhere to be found.

Home for Holidays.  No decision either way still

He probably has until the 2nd week of next semester to withdraw, so that should give us another 4 weeks or so?  Man do we need him bad.
Not if coach is gonna play him 15 minute a game

Disgusted sums it up in one word.

We continue to play down to the level.  We take 17 point lead and press hard on the breaks.  Make 17 22 then 25.  Stop letting teams creep back in.

Phil's minutes should go away asap.  He's hurt plus Branch (while he will make some bonehead passes trying to be too cute) will still make something out of nothing a helluva lot more than Phil.

The yo yoing of players has to stop.  I have said for the longest time we can only play a certain amount of guys.  No rhyme or reason.  Marco starts but then doesn't play much in 2nd half.  Should be on the court at minimum as a decoy.  Everyone in the building knew it was Dee's shot.  Marco HAS to be in there at the end.

Lavin got totally out coached tonight.  Someone earlier in the thread (apologies for not giving you name credit) we have too many athletes and not enough players.  That is abundantly clear.  We need lunchpail guys who know the game.

Terrible loss.  Long season.  Hopefully this one doesn't bite us in the arse when it comes to CBI vs. NIT.

According to some this is an NIT team right now.

They are still an NIT team at worst.

Hope I am wrong, for them to be a NIT team what does their record have to be in the league? 18 games left (9 -9) right?

Lavin needs to desperately shorten the rotation. This revolving door doesn't allow for great chemistry in my opinion.

The one and only bright side tonight was seeing Branch. He showed some nice flashes. Like to see him value the ball more and not try to go flashy with a no-look, but he sees the floor well and got it to the open man.

More Branch is needed. Go 3 guard line-up with Phil and D'Lo.

Forgot to say it 8 times.  Branch had to be in there at the end of the game.  The dribbling around the perimeter with Dee, Phil and OBEKPA!!!!! has to stop.  Obekpa needs to get down low already

I think it's gonna be tough because of loyalty but I think Phil and doms minutes shrink and Felix and branch's minutes increase.

It doesn't make a difference whose minutes increase or decrease.. As long as we run this weak ass offense .. It won't matter. A friend of mine who came with me tonight and doesn't really know much about basketball said to me tonight 3 times. " why are they all just standing next to each other ". And  " they just keep running in a circle handing the ball to each other like hot potato ".  That sums up the offense tonight

So frustrating to be a St. John's fan

I want to believe that this team can turn it around, but I have yet to see the effort to indicate they will

Really poor reflection on the coach when you are losing to San Francisco and UNC Asheville in year three of the rebuilding process

I love Coach Lavin but this is on him and I know it is not in his nature but he needs to stop with the cliches and coach speak and make sure that fans understand that he is not happy and that his team will know this is just not acceptable even a young team.

Amen!!! I said same thing to my wife on way home. She thinks I take these games too serious (LOL). I too love Lavin but think he needs to lay into the team. Although, in my opinion, he contributed in a huge way by limiting Branch's PT...we got easy baskets with Branch...neither Greene nor Harrison can create easy baskets...

We are really missing coach Dunlap out there. This team looks disorganized far too much.

We played the same way under Dunlap...Difference tonight is we finally had a floor general Iand a better defensive player) to help avoid offensive droughts and we chained him to the bench.

As others pointed out you cannot excuse this game especially considering the huge lead they had and pissed it away.

Just completely unacceptable.  8-4 with that schedule is just not good enough especially considering some of the wins just were ugly in terms of how they came out of the box.

I love Coach Lavin but this is on him and I know it is not in his nature but he needs to stop with the cliches and coach speak and make sure that fans understand that he is not happy and that his team will know this is just not acceptable even a young team.

18 games in the league, plenty of time to make a push.  But this loss hurts bad.

As others said as well I will let my anger subside before I keep posting.

Lavin has constructed a team full of Top 100 kids more than we've ever seen at STJ.  However there are serious flaws in putting the sum of all the parts together.

I liked what I saw from Branch.  I'm looking forward to seeing him run the team against BE teams.

They don't hustle and they don't work hard in these games.  They look for style points.  UNC Asheville ripped this game from SJU on loose balls and SJU softness.

They have to learn that they have to outwork every team.  If they learn that they will end Janaury with at least a 5-4 BE record and go from there.

Choke city tough one to watch

Several bad decisions.

Stayed with the press far too long, as it wasn't really impeding them (given how well they pass as a team), and was leaving our middle wide open  as our pressers tried to scramble back into a normal D.

COmpletely disagree with ANY limitation on Branch's minutes.   He should have played 40 - he needs every minute of on-court time we can give  him to "catch up".

Do not understand Balamou getting only 3 minutes.    He had two blocks and a deflection for a turnover in those 3 minutes.

There wasn't an adjustment made when they were coming back from the deficit, and we went thru like 5 straight possessions without Jakarr touching the ball.   That's something that Branch was making sure of when HE was in.   Staff shoulda burned a timeout to make the correction.

In the last 2+ minutes, we didn't have Marco in the game.  We needed at least the threat of the 3 from someone other than D'Lo.   I know he's a liability on D, but there was opportunity for some offensive/defensive subbing that should have occurred, IMO.

Other notes - Obbekpa got 6 blocks (amazing, that seems so "ordinary" now - 12 games ago that would have been 1 short of the all time St. Johns single game record!) - but he completely disappeared on the boards in the 2nd half.  8 rebs at halftime, 0 in the 2nd half.

Absolutely agree 100%...May be my imagination but Greene only looks to pass to Harrison even when Bourgault is wide open...He is not a PG....He handled it admirably while we waited for Branch but we need to make the change. . .I screamed constantly for Lavin to make the change as did others during the game...

This team could really use some strength in the worst way and it's a shame we lost out on gathers. .. The lack of rebounding and strength makes me wish we just dusted God's gift off already .

Nope. Theyre an NIT  team at best. They have no chance of finishing with a winning record without Sanchez.
And they have no shot at all of making the big tourney. And the reason for this is the inferior coach. That wont change at any point this season.

I like Phil, but his minutes need to decline...we dont rebound now...3 guard offense will make it worse...He doesnt play good defense and never fights to get over a screen

Obekpa needs to get down low already

Wanted to pull what little hair I have left out tonight each time Obekpa was standing a the top of the 3 point arc with the ball...Nothing, and I mean nothing, good is going to happen in that situation especially when he fell asleep and gave up the ball

Loyalty should not be an excuse!!

We experienced the negative side of loyalty with Eugene Lawrence. No need for a reprise.
