So frustrating to be a St. John's fan

I want to believe that this team can turn it around, but I have yet to see the effort to indicate they will

Really poor reflection on the coach when you are losing to San Francisco and UNC Asheville in year three of the rebuilding process

Lots of negatives tonight but let's be fair...This is year 2 - not 3. Nothing left from Year 1

Terrible loss.  Long season.  Hopefully this one doesn't bite us in the arse when it comes to CBI vs. NIT.

According to some this is an NIT team right now.

They are still an NIT team at worst.

Nope. Theyre an NIT  team at best. They have no chance of finishing with a winning record without Sanchez.
And they have no shot at all of making the big tourney. And the reason for this is the inferior coach. That wont change at any point this season.

How do you know Sanchez will help this team?  Even if he is as good as some say won't this "inferior" coach still have too much infuence on the team?

Disgusted sums it up in one word.

We continue to play down to the level.  We take 17 point lead and press hard on the breaks.  Make 17 22 then 25.  Stop letting teams creep back in.

Phil's minutes should go away asap.  He's hurt plus Branch (while he will make some bonehead passes trying to be too cute) will still make something out of nothing a helluva lot more than Phil.

The yo yoing of players has to stop.  I have said for the longest time we can only play a certain amount of guys.  No rhyme or reason.  Marco starts but then doesn't play much in 2nd half.  Should be on the court at minimum as a decoy.  Everyone in the building knew it was Dee's shot.  Marco HAS to be in there at the end.

Lavin got totally out coached tonight.  Someone earlier in the thread (apologies for not giving you name credit) we have too many athletes and not enough players.  That is abundantly clear.  We need lunchpail guys who know the game.

Yes, which is why even with Sanchez they are at best a borderline NIT team. Without him they are <.500, with no postseason at all.

What do you think BE record will be?
Can you provide general idea of what games you see us winning and losing

I agree with many of the sentiments expressed tonight.  I too am a huge Lavin supporter, and glad he is here.  But I expected more from this team thus far.  At most, I thought we'd have 3 losses going into Big East play.  But what is even worse than the losses is how they are playing.  It just doesn't seem that all of our parts are being used effectively together.  We have absolutely no low post game, whatsoever.  Even if CO isn't polished yet in that area, keep him down on the low block to open things up for others.  I love how we block shots for pretty much the first time ever in my lifetime, but when 3 guys constantly go up to block the same shot, leaving the weakside open for an easy put back, it is a problem.  That happens all the time.  I expect this team to grow (and have growing pains), I just thought we'd look better at this point.

Honestly Moose at this point I have no idea.  There are plenty of parts here for this to be a pretty good BE team IMO, even without Sanchez.  We finally have depth this year.  We have tremendous athletes.  We have one of the best scorers in the Big East, and what I think will be a pretty decent second option in Jakar.  Marco is a effective outside threat, one a weapon I think that a lot of us on this board have been waiting for.  CO is a disruptive shot blocker.  Phil has his moments (although I think he is either hurt or his minutes need to be decreased, because he has played far worse against lesser competition than he did against MUCH better comp the first few games of the year).  Garrett does the little things, although his offense is not nearly as advanced at this point as I thought it would be.

One thing to consider:  right now, if Sanchez can't play, I think redshirting Gift is hurting this team.  We know his limitations, but he is a big body who could provide at least some threat in the low post and on the boards, where we are sorely lacking.

After what i have seen thus far, I am not very confident in their chances against even crappy teams like Prov, SHU, Rutgers, Depaul....

Yes but we had no business losing today or San Fran with or without Gift

Tonight it really went downhill right after the ugly pink sweater.  Is that a good enough excuse?

Rysheed Jordan does not commit ...Reason: not a fan of the 3 man top of the key shuffle offense.

Agree with you 100% mjmaher.  Just think that Gift's presence may help at this point.

Too bad we didn't secure commitments from Jordan and Lawrence in the early signing period because if results like this continue even Lavin's recruiting will suffer and he will be caught in a Norm Roberts vortex or conundrum if you will (Lavin speak-using 2 phrases or terminologys to say essentially or basically the same thing-oops I did it again).

I dont understand why this team continues to play zone against teams they are far more athletic than. it makes no sense whatsoever. Atkinson is a good player but he shouldnt drop 20 on this team let alone 31. Dom and Amir are long and athletic enough to shut a guy like him down completely yet he goes for 31 because he can attack soft spots in the zone or find an open spot on the perimeter. It just makes no sense whatsoever that the staff of this team of athletic freaks insists on playing a zone against athletically inferior teams like San Francisco and Asheville.

CO touching the ball behind the 3 point line is completely useless and he shouldnt be allowed to shoot jump shots until he at least learns how to keep his back straight when he shoots. CO also needs to use his body every once in a while when going up for a block. A hard foul on a driver every now and then can do a world of good. Guys arent scared driving down the middle if they know theres no chance of them getting knocked to the deck hard.

Kid leads the nation in blocked shots as a freshman.  The best shot blocker we've ever had by an Ashville country mile.  And people are giving him advice on how he should block shots?

Reading this board can at times be a fascinating study on the fickle nature of fandom.  Particularly following a perplexing defeat.

I want to preemptively say I hope no one comes on here in the coming days and says;
"It's just one game", or we have "only two bad losses".

Everyone on here knows that's just not true.   This was not an anomaly, it was a continuation of the type of bad play we've seen regularly so far this season.   We looked like this in the first halves against NJIT, Holy Cross and Florida Gulf Coast, not to mention Fordham and of course the entire USF game.

We can debate other excuses, and some of them may have some validity; we are still young, there's no Sanchez etc.
But no more blowing this off as a one time occurance.   This keeps happening, I don't want anyone to claim otherwise.    : :(

All of these games Lavin has had different rotations. It's strange and no one can really get in a groove other than Sampson/Harrison. I really feel like PG4 needs to be off the ball, always have. Branch was good in his 14 minutes, I don't know why he didn't play more, not like he's out of shape.

Is there any need to play Jones 2 minutes? Felix had 2 blocks in his three minutes. Dom & Amir continue to be inconsistent.

See you all January 2.
