Any list about NYC high school basketball in the last 20 years has to include Lance Stephenson.

A list of the overrated.

Lloyd Daniels?

Most talented kid I have ever seen play basketball...

After everything that he did to himself and had done to him, the fact that he still made the NBA is a miracle.

He is still bouncing around AAU scene in NJ and he is still CRAZY...

Forgot to mention Ben Gordon who many hate because he went to Yukon.. But damn he was sick in HS.

But does Westchester count as NYC?

I suppose not. but you know as well as i do that Mt vernon is pretty damn close to the bronx  :)

and if it does count.. Clyde Fraizer anybody?

Clyde is not from Mt Vernon.

Your right lol.  I don't know why I thought that
*wipes ketchup from his eyes* - I guess Heinz sight isn’t 20/20.

Because he played one full season of Varsity basketball and could barely read. I know for a fact Xaverian High school did everything humanly possible to get him into the school but there was just no way he would have been able to remotely do any of the class work at the time.

Look at his wikipedia page - makes you sad to read what he might have been able to  accomplished if his head was screwed on straight.

But I saw him up at the Choz and it aint no hyperbole to say he played like a young Magic.

Magic is the only player you can really compare him to but has a much better shooter. Its too bad he didn't have 1/100th of Magic's heart and love for the game...

Derrick was the ultimate team playa and would do whateva it take to win which was usually settin up his teammates and playin crazy D. He alway play on stack squad so individually he didn't shine unless you know how valuable his game be.

Always has been and always wibe the case Kob...

Problems these days is that half the kids that can really play from the 5 borough pay zero attention to their academics and are forced to leave the area before they have a chance to shine in high school.

The CHSAA used to be the unquestioned king of high school basketball leagues and it is not a shell of itself....

Ed Cota was an anomaly in that he was bigger star in college than he was in high school.

Very true... If you are going to say Cota.. Then you have to include guys like Kareem Reid and Gary Ervin in this conversation .

They certainly do have talent. No one is saying otherwise. They just don't have the most talent.

He definitely wasn't that bad. He'd start on our team.
