It's hilarious that about a month ago I questioned the makeup of the coaching staff and I was universally ridiculed for it.
And now ?

Do you want a monument or a medal?  Maybe some big boy pants?

Who on this board thinks they are more qualified than any coach on our bench?  And please provide us your qualifications.

I think the makeup of the staff is fine.  Not sure why people won't give this staff a season or two at least to get the team going.  We have either the first or second youngest team In the nation now which some people won't lend credence to.  This staff has amassed the most talent SJU has had in over 20 years and is just starting.  We also have a winning record and it's obvious that some of the people here will criticize unless we're undefeated.  We're
9-5 now and if Ed win 2 more in a row 11-5 and sitting in s good position.  It is silly postulation by silly people who write a coach and a team off after 2 or 3 losses that weren't what the expected.  I'm more disappointed with our "fans" than I am the staff.  Lots of armchair QB's that think we are a substitution or two away from a blowout win.

Lavin writes "rebound"  on the chalkboard and we beat a top 15 team. I've always said that execution is 90%of the issue and I still believe that.  It's not some miracle coaching call at minute 26 of the game.  Our kids execute and we get we big win and now we're surprised.  Nothing to be surprised about.  Need to keep hitting the boards and defending.  The offense will come without a problem most of the time.

Orlando Sanchez was worth the risk. There were a number of coaches who were willing to take it but Sanchez chose St. John's.

Also Tony Chiles is the most valuable assistant on staff. St. John's truly has one of the best staffs in the country.

I agree that Sanchez was worth the risk. Redshirting Gift was irresponsible, and has dramatically changed this season.

Great post MCNPA. Could not agree more.  Our fan base is painful to listen to.

Lets not make GG out to be the difference between being an NCAA team and not. Of course he could help on the glass, but I'm 100% certain that if he was playing there would be multiple threads/posts about him and why he should be glued to bench in favor of the young kids.  No doubt in my mind.

Sorry but I'm not gonna sit here and wish we had a HS coach who wanted an insane amount of money over anyone.

I don't know any details regarding salary. I was basing it on X's and O's reputation.

Actually  I like the idea of both Allocco and Martin on the staff together. Martin is valuable for developing Branch and other pgs in the future.  Its that other high school coach currently on the staff who seems a waste of space.

If we win 17/18 games this year, gift would have made the difference in getting in the tourney. If we are .500, gift would have been the difference in us not getting in the nit. We beat nova with him.
Not that he is great- but it would be like a football team playing without a kicker- football teams need kickers. Bad kickers are better then qb's trying to kick. We needed a post player a few times already and didn't have one.

Not fair...that other HS coach (Hicks) is not in a position where he can help...He is Director of Basketball Operations. He has no coaching nor recruiting responsibilities

No knock on GG but losing to Asheville had nothing to do with the absence of anything that GG would bring to the table...
