IMO these problems go hand in hand. Do you think this guys will play so sloppy and make so many stupid decisions when they are juniors and seniors? I don't.

I agree with you 212... But don't bother .  The negativity will continue to fester until we win a game or two.

The funniest thing to me about all the negativity is that when Lavin got the job, he had to replace an entire team in one year. It seemed like there was an understanding on this board that this would be a long process and we probably wouldn't see results until Lavins recruits became upperclassmen, we knew we would struggle as we were rebuilding, there would be growing pains and it would probably be 3-4 years before we saw real results. But now, what we all thought would happen happened last year and we see it this year as well, but we seem shocked. Why? I guess it's just a lack of patience thing. Sure it's frustrating, but it's part of rebuilding a program, which is what Lavin is trying to do.

Could this team be better? Sure. But I'm not going to pretend that it's all because of Lavin's in game coaching. It's a factor, but our biggest problem is youth and inexperience, as much as some want to deny it.

There are still 7 minutes left in the Texas-Baylor game.  Our game will probably start on a different channel.

The funniest thing to me

The funniest thing to me is if Amir establishes his defensive position 4 inches higher and we get the charge with 22 seconds left or if D'lo puts that last shot with 4.5 secs left 1/2 inch higher on the glass - the last couple of games we would have been reading:

- What a great tactician Hollywood is and how brilliant it was for him to have Phil on over Branch down the stretch.

- How ably Martin has replaced Dunlap and how we don't miss him at all.

- How clutch Greene is taking all those big shots down the stretch and how his improved point play has been a revelation this season.

- How D'lo just had the greatest offensive output in a road conference game since Berry and what a lock he is for MVP.

- How our youth is really developing.

- Redshirting Gift is a stroke of genius!

- Who's making the trip to the final four and where should we stay?

- How that was the greatest and most exciting road win of the Lavin era.

- How much are we going to beat Cinci by?

- etc., etc., etc.

Luck is a big factor in this business and I find the fact that the breakfast of choice of our most hardcore fans are waffles quite entertaining.

Agree with this and Lavin made no bones about it when he was hired that he was looking at years 4 and 5 when we'd really get to a point where we're rolling.  Texas isn't so different from us. They don't close out well on defense either.  They do have more size than we do which is a big help, butit should hinder us this much either.  Our primary issue is learning to play proper defense.  We can put up points and even though at times our offense stalls, it is our hustle-related issues of defense and rebounding that are our biggest issue.

Finally had chance to look.

We are NOT the youngest team in America.  Texas has 9 players that play for them.  6 freshman and 3 sophs.  Jaylen Bond only played 2 games but he's a soph too.  And Kabongo would be another soph making it 6 and 4 or 5.  Food for thought based on what we keep hearing.

I was curious how they would measure that.  As an engineer, I would say you count the number of players, multiply each by their age and divide by the number of players.  For example 12 guys, 6 x 18yrs old and 6 x 19 year olds = 222/12 = 18.5 ... that sort of way.  That is how I would measure youngest.   The official website doesn't appear to list the players' ages, so I couldn't do the real math.

Now if you go by class (freshmen, soph, etc), to me that is more about being the least experienced team in the country, not the youngest.  I mean you could have three 21 yr old freshmen.   I also wondered if they meant starters, guys who have played at all this year, or everyone on the team including walk-ons.  Just my 2 cents.

Yes age would be YOUNGEST vs. just using class for least experience.  Remember we have Karr who is Freshman but really soph in age.  So that is one off the top of my head.

I agree 100%, it takes time and patience especially for this situation. I don't care who coached this team, with the exception of Calapari, it was going to be a rough ride, and sometimes it takes a bit of luck. When I think about what Johnny Manziel has done for Texas A&M and for Kevin Sumlin career, the man looks like a genius. Next year will be a better barometer, I hope Lavin is here 10 years from now!

I'm on board with this train of thought.  Maybe expectations got out of whack with what happened Lavin's first year.  Those were experienced players though.  Those that continue to bitch and moan continuously on these boards, I'm convinced, know nothing about basketball, or are the type of people that complain just for the sake of complaining.

Been following this program for almost 30 years.  I just don't see a realistic alternative to the situation we are in re: coaching and staff, and recruits/players. Regardless of whether you may be sick of hearing it, replacing 9 players in one year is an absurd task.   Do people really , in their heart of hearts, believe that a mistake was made? I don't know, these boards are just bringing me down, i guess.

  I hope we win today.
