"Terrible in-game coaches" don't beat top 15 teams on the road with a team full of freshman and sophomores. Just saying.

You're right, yesterday proved once and for all that Lavin is an excellent in-game coach.   The end.

Must have killed Cincy fans to see what they missed out on with Obekpa.

Do you really think they lost sleep over that? It's not they are lacking at any position.

They were pretty pissed when he signed here.  Basically accusing Lavin of paying the kid.  Screw 'em.  Cincy sucks

Their big men looked pathetic yesterday.

Why is it your goal to make Lavin out to be a bad coach? If you're going to ridicule him every time we lose and question every decision, how about giving him a little credit when he motivates the team to rebound better and beat a top 15 team on the road. I was mocking another poster who stated during the game yesterday that Lavin was a "terrible in-game coach". Nowhere in my above post did I say Lavin was an "excellent in-game coach." I just said he wasn't a terrible one like many here are trying to make him out to be.

Honestly I don't think we've seen enough to make a definitive statement on Lavin's in-game coaching abilities anyway. But, I've seen him outcoached and I've seen him outcoach opponents. And honestly, if you include his first year here, he's outcoached more than he's been outcoached. And he's outcoached some big name coaches. Give all the credit you want to Dunlap but Lavin was the HEAD coach that year.

Yes I do. They wanted him bad. And we don't win the game without him yesterday.

I love Obekpa, but the reason why this win meant so much is because Cinci is one of the best teams in the country. Recruiting battles are just that. Yesterday was the battle that mattered.

Unless we have knowledge of the game plan or half time/in game adjustments how are we determining whether Lavin is or isn't a good in-game coach? I for one respect coaches at this level and its absurd to think we fans know more about the game than they do. Unless told otherwise, I trust that coach knows what he's doing, and 9 tomes out of 10 if it doesn't look like there are no adjustments being made it's because the players' failed to execute.

This was probably mentioned already, but I'm sure Jermaine Lawrence liked what he saw from the Johnnies.

Love the press. But what are the chances the only game penders has seen is the Cincy one?

He's right. We showed all of those things on Sarurday. If he didn't see us before then, okay, fine then, but we proved that we have the ability to rebound and defend. Now we gotta keep it up.

No, Penders is right.  Lavin has refused to give up on what he wants to do and th style of play he wants to run, even though at times it hasnt been working well.  He wants to use his matchup zones to harass and hasn't abandoned it despite some snags.  Same goes for our offense.  Once kids all start executing on the same page like they did 2 years ago, it all looks better on the court.  Against Cincy we finally defended and rebounded like the schemes invented and we won.

I just question if we are fearless and always attack.  If anything I see too much conservative in us.

Hopefully Branch comes back, settles down, and runs the offense like the pg he is supposed to be.

That really is the key to the season. Of course if we get Sanchez eligible he will help on the boards and allow Sampson a little more freedom as a 3 rather than a 4.
