Phil by the number-break the season into 3 phases: Phase A-the first 7 games; Phase B-the next 9 games, prior to the 5 game win streak; and Phase C-the last six games including 5 win streak plus Gtown.
Phase A 47% overall; 32% from 3PT line and 52% inside the arc.  FT's 7-10
Phase B 19% overall; 17% from 3PY line.  FT's 1-3
Phase C 33% overall; 16% from 3PT line and 40% inside the arc.  FT's 7-9

Something happened in Phase B that is out of the norm.  The rumor that he has been injured could be true.  One thing he is not is a 3PT shooter at this phase of his career but when he was playing well in the first 7 games it seemed that he had shown improvement from the prior year.

For the balance of year, hopefully he concentrates on shooting inside the arc (last 5 games he has averaged 2 three point shots per game vs the 5  previous games where he averaged 5 shots beyond the arc) and dishing to the open wing on BOTH his left and right.

I could be wrong but hasn't the injury been around since the beginning of the year?

The first time the hip was mentioned was pre game USF and Lavin said it happened the previous game, NJIT.

Phil does some funky stuff with his stroke...he had same stroke last year but seemed to be rid of it at beginning of ths year...but then fell back into it...I'm no expert but often wondered if it has something with getting enough legs into the shot as opposed to falling away...

You guys need to get off this kid's back.  His squad stands around and three guys on the court can't score the ball without someone creating a shot for them.

?

Sampson creates the hell out of his own shots. As does Harrison. As did Branch, at least the old Branch did, before Harrison went all Tonya Harding on his leg. I think Garrett could create 15 shots and shoot 30 percent if asked to. I'd pay to see them give Pointer fifteen clear outs a game and I'd rather see him take 15 threes from that spot he likes in the corner than Greene dribble around for 25 seconds and then take a fall away jumper. I'm sorry did I say dribble around I meant masterfully probe the defense for weakness. That only leaves Obekpa and the worst outcome with him is if someone actually does create a shot for him.

I'm not a Greene hater. I think he'll be a good player, just not this year. He certainly hasn't been good this year. At his worst he's been awful and at his best he's just another in a conga line of mediocre SJ shooting guards. He just doesn't get it yet. But he seems like a player who'll get it eventually. I agree that he has a pretty high ceiling.

Foad..amazing how confident Pointer has gotten with that corner jumper....Doesn't take many, but I don't think he has missed one in the last 5 games...amazing what happens when confidence kicks in...

Pretty sure it was mentioned at midnight madness.

Yeh that's what I thought too and I found this acrticle from October that says this

" Lavin said both Harrison and fellow sophomore guard Phil Greene have been bothered by some nagging injuries in the preseason -- Greene to his hip, Harrison to his foot -- but neither injury appears serious.

Lavin also talked up Greene to the media. "Before Phil’s hip labrum issue, he came back and hit the ground running," Lavin said. "He was on a tear offensively.""

i'll echo some of the others here...if greene's hurt, he shouldn't be playing so many minutes.  watching him launch a three is like watching obekpa at the free throw line.

Once Branch  became eligible,I felt Greenes minutes should decrease. But w Branch injured Lavin doesnt have much choice. Hopefully Branch has a speedy recovery . Next  year, hopefully we will have a healthy Greene. But, then again, hopefully we will have Jorden.

Not a big fan of his, but;

“@QSTJHoops: Stat of the day: Phil Greene has turned the ball over 5 times in his last nine games (268 total minutes). Incredible. #stjbb”

Phil has a very good handle in that its mad tight.
He just need enuf confidence to use that to break down his man.
The skills are there.

Totally agree. He loves his own jumper, but when he drove late in the game wednesday, all I could think was wonder why he doesn't do that more often? With the jumper, if he misses, it's a one and done possession. If he drives, and score the ball, and or draw a foul.

Despite his shooting woes, I have been really happy he has been driving to the hoop with regularity and he usually finishes as well

Shoots too much! Hitting at 35% clip. Not good!

I agree

He needs to realize when his shot isn't falling to stop chucking from 3 or right in front of the arc.

When he is able to get to the top of the key for a stop and pop he is usually at his best.

Still don't think he ever passes to anyone though.

I feel bad killing the kid's game, but I am not a fan. Other than not turning the ball over I am not sure what he does well? Seems like a nice kid, but is a bit selfish and Fun's comparison to Mase jr is starting to look spot on.
BTW if you pulled someone out of the stands and told him he could shoot 16 times a game, how much worse would they shoot?

At risk of repeating myself, the amount of shots he gets is way over the top, considering his poor shooting %.

Needs to shoot more.  I love it when he scores in double figures.

Agree Paultz.  Would like him to take the ball to the hoop even more, instead of settling for long jumpers (particularly since the farther he gets away from the hoop, the worse he tends to shoot).  As far as his lacking the ability to find others, well that goes back to what all of us have been saying about him being more effective off the ball.
