This has really run its course but I think I started this right before win streak, so it continues.

Honestly, game was weird. Lavin did some stuff that I didn't agree with that worked and he did some stuff I agreed with that didn't. I thought for the most part his strategy was sound. I thought team came out a little flat and the referees were awful for both sides. Again I am record as saying I wouldn't have Obepka on the floor in closing minutes of close games. He missed two free throws and missed a layup, but he was very disruptive on defense and even played better post D at the end. If Obepka could just improve to a 50% shooter from the line I would leave him out there. At 22%(I never thought I would write that about a D 1 basketball player) it is just too risky to have him out there. Of course if Lavin took him out last night I am not sure we win :-\

Was a must win and we won! That is all that matters and for the most part outside of Obepka plaaying at end of games I don't really have any fault with Lavin during win streak.

i have a problem with him freezing out bourgault.  he must have one of those sand timers...and when the three minutes are up, bourgault sits.

greene spotted marco in the corner begging for the ball...so he threw up his usual brick.  he should have sat after that.  he contributes nothing.  i know..."the hip hurts".

in his usual three minutes last night, bourgault caused a depaul turnover and hit his only three.

in limited minutes, bourgault is 9 for 25 from three...36 percent.  more minutes would probably bring more consistancy...but 33 percent of threes is equivalent 50 percent from two.  he was an 80 percent free throw shooter at monroe.  considering we're literally one of the worst free throw shooting teams in the country...maybe this guy should be there at the end.

I agree, Marco should have played more to at least provide the outside scoring threat. His defense is a major liability though and his ball handling is pretty scary.

Is the game too fast for him at this level?

Or he is just scared of the 3 minute clock that newsie correctly alluded to where all he does is spell one of our guards a couple minutes prior to a TV timeout.

what is the deal with Jones? for such a big dude he looks so timid on the court.  there's no fire or mean streak in him.  all i want from him is to fight for a rebound.  all that athleticism and strength is going to waste.

Why at a tight ball game with Sampson at the line for 2 did Lavin leave 2 players on the lane for the first shot (miss) then remove them to halfcourt for his second shot.  I think the game was still 1 possession so why not go for a rebound if Sampson misses again?  Maybe Lavin knows rebounding is not strong and does not want to risk a foul???

I don't know understand all the love Marco gets. He can shoot open shots, but that is it. I play pick up at NY sports club. There are guys there that are great shooters. If u leave them open they will hit 3's all day. At the sports club defense isn't always the best so they get plenty of chances. Not the case in the big east. I think we give we should give Marco  the Phil wait talk and send him on his way. Can't see how he will be a factor here.
I think Felix has potential, wish he would have redshirted instead of gods gift. Once he figures out what he is doing he is going to be a good role player.
I like jones, wish he would get more minutes. I think the more he plays the better he will be.

At the risk of hating myself more than I already do, +1. Bourgault hasn't made a field goal since before Xmas and on the strength of that outstanding performance everyone wants to get him more looks. If there's really a need for someone to stand in the corner like a statue and hoist threes, why don't they run some plays for Jamal White.

I don't think anyone expects him to be Chris Mullin, or even Ron Rowan. He seems to have a skill that no one outside of Harrison possesses. If this team could pass and moved the ball I think he could be a 15 minute guy who could hit a couple threes. But as they say "that dog wont hunt". Combination of Lavin's reluctance and the lack of ball movement has rendered this discussion silly. I think everyone should move on from this debate as it is pointless.

but in those 15 minutes he also has to play defense, rebound, dribble, etc. none of which he does particularly well.  those deficiencies in my mind outweigh his potential two 3-pointers in a 15 minute span...

We aren't Michigan, whole team has deficiencies. Obepka(who I like)is the worst offensive player in America, is not a great rebounder or post defensive player and would lose a free throw contest to my 4 year old. You play to your players strengths.

i have a feeling the game moves too fast for marco...at least until we pile up the usual big lead.  then there's the point where lavin goes to a slow down.  he did it yesterday when we allowed depaul to make up a nine point deficit.

this is where marco would be useful.  i'll guess his three point shooting percentage which is 36 percent in limited minutes (44 percent in the two games where he had double digit minutes) is better than anyone else on the team.  he was an 80 percent free throw shooter at monroe.  if you MUST slow the game down...i'd say use a slow down player like marco.  my guess is if mullin was on this team, he'd be a middle of the pack player.  there's no way he'd be able to run with these guys.

Sometimes you just have to laugh.  Reggie Miller and Chris Mullin would both have sucked if they played for Lavin?  I guess that's why he's never sent any players to the NBA.   :o

P.S.  WHY ARE WE COMPARING/EQUATING---OR EVEN MENTIONING TWO OF THE GREATEST PLAYERS OF ALL TIME IN A DISCUSSION ABOUT MARCO BOURGAULT.

If I wasn't bald, I'd be pulling my hair out right now.

Pretty sure he was the 2nd leading scorer with 13 pts and had 2 assists in a tie game (OT) that became a victory.

But in all honesty I'm one of Marcos biggest advocates. I'd like 8 minutes out of him.  Maybe he'll hit 2 or 3 3's which could be huge.

I agree.  He can't give everyone courtesy 3 minutes in 1st half and ignore them in the 2nd.
